Simplifying Your Makeup Routine For Travel

For many people, wearing makeup is an important part of their everyday grooming and self-care routine. Whether they wear a full face or prefer a more minimal makeup look that takes a few minutes, makeup is a great way to feel polished and put together. When traveling, you may not want to fuss with all the brushes, products, or time spent applying them.

keep it simple

Although while we're traveling, we're bound to take many photos of not just the landscapes and sights, but ourselves enjoying them. For this reason, people still want to look their best in the photographs they will be reminiscing over for years to come. If you're looking to simplify your makeup routine for your upcoming trip, keep reading for the essentials to bring and what you can leave at home.

Light Coverage

While a full face of foundation and concealer, including contour, can give your face depth, dimension, and color, it's not always necessary while traveling. Layering your makeup is a skill that takes time to learn, but leave that for home rather than on your journey.

setting powder

Instead, opt for light coverage from a tinted moisturizer and a setting powder to keep oil at bay during your excursions. Another great thing about light coverage is you don't have to worry about sweating it off or reapplying as you explore the new cities you're visiting or enjoy time on the seaside. I use IT Cosmetic's Bye Bye Foundation Oil-Free Matte Full Coverage Moisturizer with SPF 50+.

Another way to combine efforts is to use tinted sunscreen on your face. I use Cotz's Face Moisture Lightly Tinted Sunscreen SPF 35.

Waterproof Mascara

Speaking of time by the ocean, one holy grail makeup product for anyone going on a tropical destination or somewhere by the water is waterproof mascara. Why worry about raccoon eyes as you get out of the pool or ocean?

I use Benefit's BADgal BANG! Waterproof Volumizing Mascara.

Perfect Lashes, No Work

Another option many consider when they know they'll be spending extended periods in the water is a lash tint. Lash tints are a semi-permanent dye applied to your natural lashes in under twenty minutes and give you color that lasts up to five weeks. If you go the lash tint route, all you'll need for your peepers is a lash curler, and voila!

eyelash extensions

Perfect lashes every day! If you'd like more volume than mascara typically brings, look into getting eyelash extensions before your trip. Tints and extensions can be game-changers for your makeup routine and are worth the investment to many, whether they're traveling or not.

Bold Lips

An easy way to step up your beauty game and stay selfie-ready on your travels is with a bold lip. This is a classic French beauty secret! Sometimes, you don't need makeup aside from a beautiful lipstick color to transform your look from casual to evening.

red lipstick

While the classic red lip will never go out of style, have fun playing with different lip colors that compliment your skin tone and style. A nice blush or neutral lip can accomplish the same boldness as a deeper color and will go with your wardrobe.

Sun Protection Factor

Many of us know the importance of wearing SPF year-round, no matter the forecast. Suppose you're traveling to a region where the sun shines particularly bright, and for many hours of the day, SPF needs to be your best friend. Ensure you're using an SPF formulated specifically for your delicate facial skin on your travels and another for your body. There are even tinted SPFs on the market, which will help with discoloration and evening out skin tone on top of protecting your skin.

Some people worry about the harsh ingredients in SPF products. If that sounds like you, there are plenty of eco-friendly products on the market that you can feel safe wearing. The important thing is that you wear SPF, not just for your complexion but for your overall health.

Whether you pack like a minimalist or are just looking to simplify your beauty routine, it's a freeing feeling to take things back to basics when it comes to your makeup and traveling. Who knows?

Maybe you'll prefer the more carefree morning routine and keep it up once you get back home. Either way, if you're looking to minimize your routine on your next vacation, do it in style and with ease by packing only the above-mentioned products.
