Hello! Bonjour!
I’m Andi Fisher — a Francophile, a lifelong traveler, and the person behind Misadventures with Andi. Here’s the short version of why you’re in good hands when it comes to France: I’ve been to Paris more than 50 times, I go at least once a year, I speak the language, and I’m married to a Frenchman. Paris isn’t a bucket-list stop for me — it’s the city I keep coming back to, and the one I’ve spent well over a decade writing about.
Here’s what makes my take a little different: I’m always a tourist, even if I’m a well-informed one. I love my expat friends and the locals who live in Paris, but they aren’t tourists anymore — they’ve forgotten what it’s like to arrive with fresh eyes. I haven’t. I still get the thrill of the City of Light as a visitor, and I share every tip, trick, and hard-won lesson so your trip goes smoother than my first ones did.
What you’ll find here
I write about the things I genuinely love: travel, France (especially Paris), food, French culture and lifestyle, plus books, movies, and the occasional outdoor escape. Whether you’re planning your first trip to Paris or your fifteenth, hunting for the best croissant in the city, or trying to decode a French menu, I’ve probably already made the mistakes so you don’t have to.
I don’t take myself too seriously, and I don’t expect you to either. I’m fun, positive, and a big believer that since there’s so much you can’t control, you might as well choose to be happy.
Why the name Misadventures with Andi?
Back in 2003, I moved to Switzerland for work — my first time living abroad without my parents. Naturally, there were mishaps. I started emailing the stories to friends and family under the heading “Misadventures with Andi,” because I’d rather have misadventures than no adventures at all. In 2008, when I finally started the blog, the name was already mine.
A Little More About Me…
I grew up an Army brat, living all over the U.S., Latin America, and Europe, so wanderlust was baked in early. I’ve spent 30+ years in the corporate world in customer advocacy, social media, and content marketing. In 2015, my husband and I sold our Berkeley house, bought an RV, and spent a couple of years roaming the U.S. — first landing in Phoenix, then falling for Raleigh, North Carolina. In 2024 we bought a home in the Braga area of Portugal, where I’ve been living and remote-working since April 2025. So these days you’ll also catch me writing about Portugal and my little corner of Europe — always with Paris just a short flight away.
I’m a world traveler, a foodie, a bookworm, and a movie nut. I am not a domestic goddess or a fashionista — if that’s what you’re after, move along! Welcome, and let the misadventures roll.
