Currently March 2022
Currently | 3.31.22
I am not really sure if March has any redeeming qualities. In North Carolina the weather is a bit crazy, some days feel like we get all 4 seasons. I don't know how many times I make trips down to my closet to add or remove a layer. Last year I actually added a coat rack to my office to hold my extra sweatshirts, scarves, jackets that I tend to need during my workday.
We had hoped to do some camping trips to the coast but it always seemed to rain on the days we wanted to go, even if the weather completely changed to blue skies and sunny 24-hours later!

We have been glued to the TV watching the incredible events in Ukraine. It is disheartening.
And don't get me started on the Oscars.
I love the Oscars (I actually got to work them when I was at Dolby) and was actually enjoying the show and the diversity or the awards, but that got ruined with the slap heard around the world…
Looking forward to better weather, world events, and self-control in April!
Now, onto March and what's been going on in the Misadventures world!
Watching | Many French Police Series
The best way to improve my French is to read, watch and speak as much as possible. Admittedly I do more watching than anything else! I absolutely love our MHz subscription from Amazon as they are constantly adding French series. This last month we watched Magellan (a police series set in the Lille area); Tandem (a police series set in Montpelier/Camargue) and Cherie (a police series set in Lyon.)
I know, that's a lot of police series, but that is my thing!
We just watched Murder on the Nile this week. Great filming and acting, didn't completely love the story. It was 1 hour into a 2-hour film before the murder happened which didn't leave a ton of time for the solving. I did really like the added Poirot back story and it was great to see Emma Mackey. I raved about Eiffel after seeing it in France in October and it has finally hit the US market, watch it!
Can't Wait to Watch:
- Julia starts tonight! It's the HBO Max series on Julia Child. I love Julia! Read Julia Child’s Paris and 5 Things/Life lessons I learned watching Julie & Julia to see just how much!
- They announced the release of Top Gun 2! Can't help it, totally want to see that!
- All the Oscar films I haven't seen as soon as they come out for streaming.
Reading | Murder in Montmartre
I am nearly done with How to Be Italian: Eat, Drink, Dress, Travel, and Love La Dolce Vita which I am reading in between Cara Black books! I finished Murder in Clichy and in the middle of Murder in Montmartre. Murder at the Porte de Versailles came out on March 1 and I will (eventually) read but got to get through the other books first!
Up Next…
- Mr. Misadventures has been doing some reading on Portuguese history and has also picked up some books on Portuguese food. I have my eye on My Lisbon: A Cookbook from Portugal's City of Light – it is beautiful and I am going to steal it from him!
Best Bite | Watercress Soup
I think I mentioned our discovery of a fantastic Asian market in the Raleigh area. We have been getting sashimi there every week, but also a huge variety of vegetables that we haven't seen since living in Berkeley. Things like pea shoots and escarole, long beans, and watercress. Or at least watercress in large enough quantity to make soup which Mr. Misadventures has been doing nearly every week this past month as well.
Working On | New Design (still)
By this time next month, the new Misadventures with Andi site design will be up and running! Looking forward to a pretty, yet speedy site!
Feeling | Motivated
Remember all those carbs I was loving during my month in Portugal in January? Well, I could love them as I was walking an average of 7 miles a day. But once I got home that was no longer the case, and I was sneaking in some carbs, like for my sashimi without adding exercise. Whelp! That's finished. I have back in the carb-tracking and exercising every day. I even started using our rowing machine more regularly.
I am motivated to do this so I can have carbs more regularly. Or really anything I want more regularly. The trick is keeping up the exercise!
Loving | Frenchie Fridays!
I miss the more informal just chatting posts that I use to do. Whether it was Frenchie Friday or Saturday Six, or a few other series I've done along the years. What can I say, I've been doing this for 14 years, I like to change it up a bit from time to time!
So I started a new email series last Friday called Frenchie Friday which is an informal email from me with what is on my mind. If you aren't already on my email list, click here to subscribe and you will be in the know for my weekly email with “all the things.”
Favorite Photo | My New Osprey Backpack!
If you have been reading Misadventures with Andi over the years or followed me on Instagram you will have spotted one of my faithful companions, my red Osprey backpack. Purchased at the REI store in North Berkeley in 2008, my backpack has been all over the world and on many adventures and misadventures!
When I had to send it back for repair I was sad. I was even sadder when Osprey told me they couldn't fix it and they were replacing it with a new one. That part is not sad. That part illustrates that they follow through on their lifetime guarantee. No. I was sad because I felt like I did say a proper goodbye. I thought I would see it again. So I decided to let my new Osprey know what kind of shoes he is filling with my blog post this week, Ode to my Osprey.

That’s my month, what’s CURRENTLY going on with you?
Like it? PIN it!
I totally get it! My DVR is absolutely stuffed with all my favorite police shows.
That soup looks delicious. I need to try it.
The Oscars were crazy. I do want to start watching Julia!
I adore your blog and reading about your adventures. I have to admit, I felt the same thing about the Oscars. Done with that.
March weather here has been crazy. It has been cold on day and the next hot.
Got to watch those carbs. They have a way of sneaking into you day to day life without you really knowing.
Looks like March was a great month for you. March was a great chance for me to take breaks and just relax.
I need to get HBO Max so that I can start watching some shows. I’m planning on getting it soon. Seems like they just have so many wonderful shows on it.
Across the globe March has been marked by the dreadful and sad events that are happening in Ukraine. I agree with you that Murder On The Nile is not exactly gripping.
I didn’t and haven’t gotten into the Oscars in many years. They just aren’t what they used to be in my opinion. I did enjoy the original Julie & Julia so I am sure I would like the new one. There was always just something so intriguing about Julia Childs.
Not much happening here. We are also experiencing a variety of weather types so it’s not easy to know what to wear each day. I do hope that settles soon.
Watercress soup sounds and looks so delicious. There are so many good books here to check out.
Sounds like you had a very busy and full month during March. So many fun things going on both in North Carolina and elsewhere.
I love police series too, but I think I’ve never watched a French one. Sounds interesting.
I also watch the Oscars and it really went crazy! The clips are all over on social media and television.
