Life in the Age of the Queen
I can't believe it has been over a month since we returned from France. We have now been home as long as we were gone and I haven't even had the chance to do any writing about our trip! After 5 weeks in France, I have loads of them but have been working on finishing my “Month in Paris” series, the gift guides, and the holidays in France. I have a few more of those coming up and then I'll get to the stories from our trip.
Things weren't certainly looking a little brighter on the travel front, but now that we are on to the 8th letter in the Greek alphabet, it seems like the queen's reign (reference here) will be as long as Queen Elizabeth's!

If you celebrate, I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving holiday. I traveled to Virginia to enjoy turkey and all the fixings with my sister and her family and my Mom. The Misadventures family is not big on holidays and we regularly travel at this time. Paris lots of times, Kyoto, New Mexico, etc. However, this year being the first holiday season without my Dad we are staying close to home and for the very first time in a long time, spending it with family.
I hope you got all the Black Friday deals you wanted!
Now, onto November and what's been going on in the Misadventures world!
Watching | A lot!
I don't know if it was playing catch up from our time in France or new content is ramping up, but we watched a lot this past month. on Apple+ there was Finch (good), Invasion (so-so), Morning Show Season 2 (great) and Foundation (awesome!). On Amazon Prime, we saw the first 3 episodes of Wheel of Time (which looks to be pretty good) so we will continue that.
On Showtime, Dexter! I am a very big Dexter fan. Loved the series and while working at Dolby I got to work several Dexter season launch events and meet and interview the cast – so exciting! Not sure how the new series will be but I am willing to give it some time.
We also managed to re-watch Call My Agent, which just won an international Emmy for best comedy series!
On the movie side, we watched No Time to Die. I am a James Bond fan and pro-Daniel Craig, but I need to see the movie again to absorb it all. It wasn't like any other James Bond, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I just wasn't expecting it. I wanted to like Red Notice because I enjoy The Rock, but I thought it was just okay, entertaining and that is it.
Can't Wait to Watch:
The Last Duel (set in France), the 4th Matrix movie, Season 2 of Emily in Paris (Dec 22!). But more than anything, I cannot wait for “And Just Like That” the “Sex and the City” revival due out December 9 on HBO Max. I love, love, love SATC and cannot wait to see what they do with this one. Hopefully, it works and they can go back to Paris again!
Reading | Foundation
I finished Provence, 1970 which I enjoyed immensely. It was an intriguing peek into a moment in time when several of our American chefs and legends Julie Child, M.F.K Fisher, James Beard, and more came together in Provence. While all going through their own existential crises, they wore voracious letter writers, so between their letters and a journal that M.F.K. Fisher wrote we get a real glimpse into turning points in all their lives that happened at the end of 1970 and the beginning of 1971.
Now, this is BIG. I have never, to my recollection, ever purposely (like not assigned at school) read any science fiction. Some fantasy sure, like Tolkein and C.S. Lewis, but never had any desire to read Sci-Fi. I love Star Trek, Star Wars, and lots of TV series and movies, but Sci-Fi has never appealed to me when it comes to reading. Until now. I was blown away by the story in Foundation and decided I wanted to read the book. Little did I know that it is a whole series of books! Time for me to go down a rabbit hole!
Best Bite | M Sushi
Mr. Misadventures and I went out to downtown Durham to check out some hotels and take some photos for 2 upcoming partner collaborations. While finishing up at one of the hotels, I spotted a discreet sushi place in the building next door and we decided to treat ourselves. It turned out to be a spot that had been recommended to me by several co-workers (score). It was the first time we had sat down in a restaurant (we sat at the sushi bar) in the US since February 2020.
We treated every bite as if it was gold and was wonderful!
Working On | Paris, Brittany + France Stories
I've got a few more posts and 2 campaigns to launch/publish and then I will be free to share my stories from my 5 weeks in France. We spent 2 weeks in Paris, 2 weeks in Brittany, and last week in a few spots including several days in Vichy. I can't wait to share them!
Feeling | Wary
We are ready to spend a month in Lisbon, but it looks like things are heating up again and we are monitoring the situation very closely. I will be very bummed if we can't go (I am still dreaming of many pasteis de nata and my favorite hand cream), but safety first!
Loving | Upcoming Break
One of the benefits of working in tech for most of my career is that there is usually a holiday shutdown. I will have the 23rd of December through the 9th of January off and it will be nice. I hope that you will be able to enjoy some free time in December as well. If you work in retail, I wish you luck! My heart goes out to you!

I hope you had an amazing Thanksgiving, I had a really nice one.
We’re finishing up Foundation, too, and can’t wait to start Dexter next! Glad to know you weren’t wild about Invasion as that was on our maybe list.
@Kristin, I don’t hate Invasion, but it is SUPER slow in developing its story.
Aw, I hope you have a well deserved break, as it looks like you are in need of a break! Hope you get to go to Lisbon as well!
Welcome back from France! Must have been a great experience there. I’ve been watching a lot too on Apple TV.

I can’t believe that November is almost over already. I have not seen Dexter yet, but it’s on my list. There are so many shows I need to see.
Oh wow, I love Dexter too!!! I can’t believe you got to meet and also speak with the cast that must have been soooo much fun!!!
I’m writing down that book for my sister in law. She loves historical books and I needed a Christmas gift idea!
I love reading new books and Provence sounds interesting. I’d love to hear about the experiences of all those chefs.
I really don’t know what to make of the new Dexter yet – I’m struggling with it – I loved the original series (minus the ending) I’ll have to keep going at it.
My friend just mentioned the Wheel of Time as well. I will have to check it out! Sounds like you have kept busy lately.
I will check it out that book. That sushi sounds looks delicious.
I love watching shows and movies this time of the year. I will check The Last Duel.
I had the most amazing Thanksgiving with my family and am rewatching all of the Dexter episodes as I never watched it until about 2 weeks ago! Crazy…..
I’m glad you had a chance to get together with your mom and your sister’s family for Thanksgiving. I hope your mom is doing well. I hope she is enjoying living back East, such a big change from Arizona for sure. I wish you all a wonderful Christmas holiday season and a great New Year.
