Project Discover Week #14
It's been a weird week. Hawaii is 3 hours behind the West Coast, so jetlag shouldn't be too much of an issue, but somehow it has been. I think part of it might be that we came back to the RV after having a week in a spacious condo with high speed internet. It made me realize that I am a little bit tired of the RV and ready to go back to a “regular” home with a good-sized kitchen, internet, etc.
But we did come back to sunshine! Three glorious days of it, even getting close to 80 on Wednesday. Only to have it all come tumbling down yesterday when it dropped to 50 degrees and began pouring down rain! At least we got a couple of walks in before that happened. We tried to walk this morning, but the rain was coming down sideways…
As you may recall, Project Discover is my weekly series stemming from my 2017 word of the year, discover. Besides looking for a job I am focused on three things:
- Discover(ing) Portland
- Discover(ing) Exercise
- (re)Discover My Blogging Mojo
You can follow along every week in my Project Discover Weekly Updates.
Discover(ing) Portland
Now that the weather is starting to look up, despite a new bout of rain, we have plans to get out more. Portland looks completely different when the sun is shining. People are smiling, laughing and everyone is outside. We also plan on doing some day trips to the coast, to Mt. Rainier, etc. We have the luxury of not having to wait for the weekend, so we might as well take advantage of it!
Discover(ing) Exercise
Our goal is still to get up to 10 miles for our walks. We are also cleaning up the bikes and will hit the trail as soon as we have some more sunshine coming.
I lost just shy of 2-pounds this week and 1/2 pound for the week we were in Kauai. That's 12.5 pounds total in 5 weeks. I can't say I don't crave a bowl of rice or sushi roll from time to time, but otherwise Atkins hasn't been that bad. Mr. Misadventures is already in Phase 2 where he can have up to 50 carbs a day. I'm still in Phase 1. I need to hit 15 pounds lost before I can move into the next phase.
I've been drinking a lot of water in different fruit flavors, makes me drink more water and keeps any hungries away. Also, Atkins has some snacks that stave off the cravings for chocolate. I absolutely hate the fact that I need them, because they are unnatural and genetically modified, even if they taste great, but it is the best option for chocolate or sweets at the moment. I do not eat them every day and I will be happy to get rid of them, even if they have helped.

I'm just plugging away here and there, flittering really. I can't seem to focus on completing one task. There is an underlying sense of anxiety and I can't seem to shake it. I'm looking forward to BlogHouse Indy to try to find some inspiration.
I have been doing some deep cleaning, deleting hundreds of blog posts. I am going to write about that process soon.
That’s been my week, what have you been up to?
Like it? PIN it!
are you in portland now? i can show you around or grab a drink or coffee!!! welcome!
@Molli, I am! That would be wonderful, I’ll reach out on email.
I really need to get back into my exercise routine. It sounds like you’re having great results!
@Nellwyn, I know it is so hard to find time!
congrats on your success. 10 miles walk is very ambitious I might have to ride my bike for part of this .
@Maria, we aren’t there yet, but we will be. We are supposed to have sunshine for more than 7 days so the bikes are coming out!
Portland sounds like such a fun town, I hope you discover some fun stuff now that the weather is nice out. Congrats on losing all that weight, it is never easy but it is worth it. Have you looked into some recipes that might help with the chocolate cravings instead of their bars? Maybe there is something awesome and easy to make out there for you.
@Jill, that’s a good idea about trying recipes to satisfy my chocolate cravings. I am only 1/2 a pound from going into the next phase where I will have more carbs, that will allow me to have real chocolate!
I too have to get back in my exercise routine. I have been working all the time so I completely forgot about that.
@Elena, I know it is hard when you are working! Once I find a job it will be harder to maintain a regime!
Oyyyy the exercise routine. That struggle is real. congrats on losing weight! I myself have been putting it on, and really need the school year to be over for my kids, and for summer to arrive, so I’ll have more time to allow myself “me time”.
@Erica, I hear you! It’s a blessing and a curse not having a job. Once I get one I know I won’t have nearly enough time to exercise!
That is so awesome. I Love that you are on project discovery, Portland sounds great. I have enjoyed reading this and following along with you!
@Brandy, thanks so much! It’s my attempt to keep me a bit focused!
Congrats on the weight loss and staying on track! I really need to change my way of eating so that I can lose this extra load.
@Tami, it took a week or two to get used to it and figure out how to make it work, but for me it’s working!
Cool. Exercise is important to maintain health.
