Watching | Mad Men & A Star is Born
> We finished streaming Mad Men and Mr. Misadventures is kicking himself for not watching earlier! I love the clothes and furniture and style of the 60's (well maybe not the late 60's) and enjoy the inner workings of the world of advertising. Don Draper is a deeply flawed person, love him and hate him, and so complex to watch. I was anxiously waiting for A Star is Born to come out and it didn't disappoint. I really hope that it gets a lot of Oscar recognition. Being space geeks will also saw First Man, but I didn't love it.

Reading | Heads in Beds
> Heads in Beds is from 2012, but it just came across my radar in one of my daily Kindle deal emails. It's a behind-the-scenes look at the hospitality industry much like Kitchen Confidential. I'm a little nervous to take a peek under the covers, but I'm going to go for it!

Having 2 long international flights there and back from Paris, I had plenty of time for reading and finished The Great Alone which I absolutely LOVED. I also finished The Tenth Island. I didn't love the book, but I really enjoyed the content if that makes sense? There were things about the Azores that I was completely unaware of and I learned a lot even if I didn't like the book flow. I also tore through Next Year in Havana and learned a lot about Cuban immigration and exile, and also the new Nicholas Sparks book, Every Breath, both perfect airplane material!

Working On | Getting a Refund
> Without going into too much detail, I will leave that to the blog post I will write on the situation. We did not have a good experience with the first condo we rented in Paris. We booked a weekend in Brittany and our 2nd week in Paris with Airbnb, but for our first week, we tried VRBO. The owner of the condo canceled on us 2 hours before we were supposed to check-in leaving us scrambling and unhappy.

Feeling |  Sad
> It's 2 years this month that Jessica passed away and I miss her terribly. She was the first pet I had as an adult so I'm not sure if that's normal. But I dream about her and think about her often, even 2 years later. She was my fur baby for 15 years.

Jessica

Planning |  Winter trips
> I've got a few potential projects coming up and it is very nice to have options. The company I work for has a forced shutdown between Christmas and New Year's so it is the perfect time to get on the road without worrying about where I am going to find wifi for work. Whether we do a road trip or a trip abroad I'm going to have the opportunity to be 100% off which will be very nice indeed.

Loving |  Le Médovic

Medovic_Cafe Pouchkine copy

> My new discovery from Café Pouchkine in Paris, it is a delicious pastry made with honey cookies and pudding, in my case banana, and it reminded me so much of a prettier version of banana pudding from Magnolia Bakery in New York City. When I worked at the bank and did business trips to the Manhattan office, there was a Magnolia Bakery right next store. Getting banana pudding was the highlight of my week. I am glad I only discovered the médovic on the 2nd to last day in Paris, otherwise instead of losing 1/2 a pound for the entire trip, I might have gained 20!

My Favorite Photo | Breizh Café crepe

Breizh Café Crepe

I've had plenty of good crepes in France. But the best crepe I've ever had remains the crepes from Breizh Café in Cancale. Mr. Misadventures and I tried them for the first time in 2010 when we stayed at Chateau Richeux and again in 2012. There is something to be said about returning to a restaurant 6 years later and have everything still be wonderful! This is such a unique place with exceptional ingredients and a unique tie to Japan. They have locations in Paris, Cancale, St. Malo, Tokyo and Kyoto and I hear rumblings about a US opening next year. That would be awesome!

  1. Two hours? That’s ridiculously unfair, and it shouldn’t be allowed.

  2. Lauren Floyd says:

I used to love Mad Men and their wardrobe. I fell off a few seasons ago though.

  3. Losing a pet is never a fun thing. I still think of my first dog who we lost more than 10 years ago. Will never forget him!

Looks like you had a pretty month even with the few setbacks. I am currently busy caring for my husband who was hospitalized for 36 days. Worried too about my mom who has Stage 4 Breast CA. I don’t go anywhere these past few months because of this. I only run errands, attend to their needs and make sure they take their medication on time. I hope and pray that these two loved ones get better.
