Valley of Fire State Park – Fire Wave and Pink Canyons

We have visited Valley of Fire State Park many times over the last few years. It continues to be one of my favorite parks, which is saying a lot because I'm not a huge fan of hot weather or the desert, although I do think the desert in the winter is spectacular. The park is an hour's drive from Las Vegas and we always try to come out whenever we go to Sin City. I used to go several times a year … [Read more...]

Weekly Wanderings #52 – Las Vegas/Zion

52 weeks! Is it possible that we have been on the road one year? It is truly hard to fathom. I'm writing part of this post from the Starbucks in St. George, Utah because it's (a) raining and (b) the wifi in the RV park is not awesome...the story of my (current) life. We left the Palm Springs area last Sunday and drove to Las Vegas. The forecast for Monday showed rain, so after quickly setting … [Read more...]

Death Valley for a Day

Knowing enough about Mr. Misadventures predilection for deserts and places with sandy rocks, I was not surprised when his suggestion for a trip to Las Vegas really meant, "let's check out Death Valley." We followed our normal routine, the same as when we go to places like Valley of Fire.  We flew into Las Vegas on a Friday evening in time to make it to Whole Foods before they close.  We picked … [Read more...]

Southwest Road Trip 2012 Day 10: Moab to Las Vegas

When we originally planned our trip we were going to fly into Las Vegas and fly out of Salt Lake City, but when I went to book a car for our trip and configured it for the drop-off at a different airport the price doubled! We decided to drive the seven hours back to Las Vegas and stay the night at the Element in Red Rock Canyon and fly home from Vegas. Even with fuel-ups and the extra hotel night, … [Read more...]

Southwest Road Trip 2012 Day 1: Las Vegas to Zion

A lot of my offline friends have been interested in how Mr. Misadventures and I organized our 10-day Southwest road trip, plus I owe you guys posts on what I was up to.  So I am combining the information as a way to kill two birds with one stone. There are couple of things that you should know first off.  To begin with, this trip was entirely planned by Mr. Misadventures.  Taking photos of the … [Read more...]

I died and went to Japanese heaven, or a dinner at Raku

I just want to say this right away.  The dinner I had at Raku was the best Japanese food I have ever eaten outside of Tokyo. Hands down. Period. I read about Abriya RAKU, or Raku, in last month's Bon Appetit (April 2012, page 60) in a tiny paragraph tuck into an article about Las Vegas.  The words "chefs eat here on their night off" got my attention and I made note of it.  When my husband said, … [Read more...]

Valley of Fire State Park Redux (but in Macro!)

Last August I visited the Valley of Fire State Park with Mr. Misadventures.  It was 110 degrees.  I took photos, but I didn't leave the car much... This past December we planned a return trip for the Spring thinking it would be cooler.  So not knowing that I would be staying in Vegas for two weeks working back-to-back tradeshows, we planned a weekend where we would stay at the Element and do … [Read more...]

Omakase Tasting Menu at Shibuya Las Vegas

I have stayed at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas many times for work.  Each time I head to the monorail to take the train to the convention center I pass several restaurants including MGM's fine dining sushi offering, Shibuya.  I have wanted to try it for years but never had the time or inclination to actually go in. But that was before Jiro and my current hankering for sushi.  After two nights of … [Read more...]

Frustrated Blogger

Today I complete the first week of a two-week business trip to Las Vegas.  I am in my third hotel in almost as many days, I am actually moving to  my fourth and final hotel tomorrow.  I am frustrated because the wi-fi in the hotels has been horrendous and I can literally feel my grey hair growing while trying to work, or blog, or read blogs. So no Saturday Six this week, reading blogs, or doing … [Read more...]

Friday Food Foto – Shibuya Sushi

With all the recent dreaming of sushi would you be surprised that I finally gave in and did the tasting menu at Shibuya.  It is a sushi restaurant in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas that I have been eyeing for several years.  I stay at the hotel at least once a year (twice this year so far) for work and I have wanted to have a meal here but just never gotten around to it.  Until this week. I am going … [Read more...]
