My San Francisco Fairmont Staycation with Stearns & Foster

Sponsored This is a sponsored post on behalf of Stearns & Foster, but (as always) the content and opinions expressed here are all mine.

Sadly, Stearns & Foster (along with Jetsetter) didn’t send me to Venice to try out the wonderful trip they were giving away in their perfectly crafted sweepstakes.  But, Stearns & Foster DID treat me to an amazing staycation in the iconic Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco’s Nob Hill.

Well, one reason is that this hotel recognizes luxury. So when it comes to the mattresses in their rooms and suites, they choose Stearns & Foster.

And second, they allowed me to craft my own getaway. I chose to do a classic Nob Hill evening with drinks at the Top of the Mark followed by dinner at Laurel Court Restaurant & Bar in the San Francisco Fairmont. I chose the in-hotel restaurant because I have been following the story of chef Andrew Court who is passionate about farm-to-table dining.

From time to time, Chef Court can be seen at the Farmer’s Market at the Ferry Building and has even taught classes there.  In addition to maintaining the herb garden and the 250,000 honeybee production on the hotel’s rooftop, chef Court understands the local products are what enable The Fairmont to create authentically seasonal menus.

Since Mr. Misadventures was off in Yellowstone, taking photos like this:

I invited a friend from work. She and her husband moved to San Francisco from Europe last year and are exploring the city, but she had not yet had an opportunity to visit the Fairmont or the Top of the Mark.

The Top of the Mark in the ICC hotel offers a gorgeous view of the city and was the place to be seen for decades.  There are so many fun vintage photos from this vantage point!

The place still draws a crowd from locals and tourists alike, and we enjoyed a delightful glass of champagne while watching the sunset.  Check out the view!

Our palates properly warmed up, we headed back across the street for dinner.  [I also highly recommend having a drink in the Tonga Room in the Fairmont. It’s one of the last remaining tiki lounges in San Francisco (Anthony Bourdain even visited it in his No Reservations San Francisco show) but it is closed on Tuesdays which was the evening I was staying.]

We ordered decadent filet mignon, truffle fries and carrots (to be healthy!) which we enjoyed with a deep, rich, delicious Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine. I could not have asked for better accompaniments to the wonderful conversation and laughter I shared with my girlfriend, although I would have asked for better lighting to show you what it looked like!

Filled to the brim we retired to our suite, each of us claiming a Stearns & Foster equipped bed.  I took this photo earlier in the afternoon, I wanted to catch the bed in good light (check out that view!):

We did more girl-talking and took in the amazing cityscape as we tested our San Francisco neighborhood chops before it was time for bed.

As soon as our heads hit the pillows we were out like a light.  I usually wake up during the night and I frequently toss and turn.  but when I woke up in the next morning, I was still in the same spot as when I fell asleep!

Just look how thick and cushy the mattress is:

The mattress was so comfortable, contoured my body, it afforded me a great night of sleep.  Since I had to get to the airport to hop on a plane to Seattle, I didn’t get a change to spend too much time lounging in bed, something I definitely could have done, just check out the view from the room:

I said farewell to the Fairmont, good-bye to my girlfriend and headed out.

My perfectly crafted staycation at the San Francisco Fairmont was lovely and I thank Stearns & Foster for hosting me and providing me the opportunity to test out their mattress in such a luxurious environment.

How about you? Have you had a memorable night’s sleep at a hotel? Have you been to the Fairmont or the Top of the Mark? Do tell!

DISCLOSURE: Stearns & Foster paid for my evening at the San Francisco Fairmont and provided me with a Stearns & Foster Mattress King Lux Estate Hybrid Plush Euro Pillow Top with a King Flat Foundation. Despite the sponsorship, all opinions are my own (as always).

  10. I haven’t been to San Francisco in 30 years. I know we went to a lot of the touristy places but I can’t remember if we went to the Top of the Mark. I think I would have remembered that view! I know we didn’t stay at the Fairmont but with beds like that I will definitely stay there if we get back to San Francisco.

It looks like you had a wonderful time. Maybe next time you will go to Venice.

  18. What an amazing staycation – we do this now and then in Chicago. It’s a great way to check out local sights and feeling like a tourist in your own town. Sometimes we even stop people to ask for directions (already knowing how to get to the destination) – it makes the experience more authentic 🙂
