Monthly Blog Goals: June 2017

Monthly Blog Goals June 2017

I started this series because I enjoyed reading my friend Natalie’s monthly accounts of how she was doing with her own blog, Cosmos Mariners. I knew it would be a good way to have some accountability for the many hours that I put into blogging. As an “A” student in school and a highly organized Type-A kind of person, I didn’t expect to have to record failure when I didn’t complete my goals.

It’s been interesting to see how what I do on a daily impacts my goals. It is forcing me to re-exam some of the activities I spend my time on and review if they are worth my effort against my overall goals. I know from my own experience that reading other bloggers’ posts about what they go through, including mistakes may help others, or at least interest others!

Before getting into my goals for June, let’s review what happened in May.

Monthly Blog Goals May 2017 Review

May’s Monthly Blog Goals Review

You can see the entire post here. And here’s how I did:

1. Continue to drive and build traffic.

I took my eye off the Pinterest ball for about 10 days and it impacted my traffic goals. I still increased traffic month-over-month but not at a rate I’d like. This is my most important blog goal for the year and so I am trying to do whatever I can to attack it.

I am picking up my Pinterest activities which means that Instagram suffers.  I can’t drive traffic to my blog from Instagram so I haven’t posted too much there. Instead I am working on the following:

  • Deleting old posts that no longer have value.
  • Updating 3-5 old posts a week with new images and improving SEO.
  • Adding Pinterest-sized images to 5-10 posts a week.
  • Searching for guest post opportunities.
  • Participating in monthly giveaways.
  • Pinning like mad.

2. Finish my ebook.

Fail. Fail. Fail.

I don’t know if it’s writer’s block or procrastination, I just can’t get in the mood to write this.  My writing space is not very comfortable in the RV, and Starbucks is not optimal either. I just need to get over it and get it done!

3. Get a second consecutive newsletter out. Consider revitalizing my weekly round-up.

Failed. But can I say it was a purposeful fail?  I decided to wait to send my second newsletter until the Work at Home bundle launches tomorrow.  That way I can let people know about my own experiences with working from home and my favorite picks from the bundle.

So there will be a newsletter this weekend!  You still have time to sign up for my newsletter if you haven’t done so already.

4. Look for more guest-posting opportunities.

I only guest posted on one site last month, The Wednesday Edit, a post called The Travel Edit: Peace of Mind While Travelling. I have an interview coming up on Paste Magazine, but I would like to find additional places to guest post.

If you are looking for guest posts on your blog or website, let me know!

5. Continue My Monetizing Efforts.

I have been adding affiliate links to posts where it makes sense. These efforts aren’t brining in tons of money, but that’s okay. I’ve got a few other ideas for affiliate links for the second half of the year. I’d like to set up a goal of $500 a month from affiliate links, but need to write some additional posts to make that happen.

6. Pay it forward.

I didn’t read a lot of new blogs this month, but I am hosting a new guest poster each Wednesday. If you would like to guest post on Misadventures with Andi, leave a comment below or send me an email at MisadventuresWithAndi AT gmail DOT com.

Overall not too bad if it wasn’t for my darn ebook!  Let’s take a look at June.

Monthly Blog Goals June 2017

June Monthly Blog Goals

1. Continue to drive and build traffic.

In addition to the list of items I mentioned above, I need to start publishing old posts on social media through Buffer and Hootsuite. I know from reviewing my Google Analytics for my top 100 posts that the sponsored posts I promoted performed well because I gave them extra attention on social. I need to do the same for my own posts, but have yet to do it.

2. Finish my ebook.

I will attempt this again!

3. Get a newsletter out.

My second 2017 newsletter will be out this weekend! Sign up before Saturday to get yours.

4. Look for more guest-posting opportunities.

If you are looking for guest posters on your blog or website, let me know!

5. Continue My Monetizing Efforts.

I’d like to complete one post that could help garner more affiliate income. But in the end, if I don’t drive more traffic to the blog in general, it doesn’t do much good.

6. Pay it forward.

Time to read more blogs, host guest posters and make sure I reply to comments in a more timely manner.

7. Work on my redesign brief.

At some point I will have a full time job and a full time paycheck and at that time I want to refresh my design a bit. I started a creative brief, but I’d like to complete so that is ready to go when I need it.

That’s it for June, wish me luck!

How about you? Any of these goals resonate with you? Do you create and track your own goals? If you blog about it, share your latest post about it, I’d love to see it!

  2. I was never much for goals until 2017 when I hit a big blogging slump. Since then I’ve felt so much better about content, SEO, Pinterest, and page views. So yes, this totally resonates with me. Blogging is a lot of work and I don’t know that non-bloggers always understand what we do! Kudos!

  3. Monthly goals for my blog is something I need to invest time in. Blogging is such hard work but so worth it. I need to get rid of old post too, but I thought it was bad for SEO.

OMG get out my head!! I’m literally working on half of these goals myself. Mainly Pinterest. It’s my largest traffic driver as well and yet I still don’t focus enough on it. Seeing this will hopefully help get me back on track. Thank you!

  11. Love this post. Im also having a hard monetizing my website, but not a big deal for me right now. Just working on migrating my site from wix to wordpress, and at the same time, we’re working on an outreach project soon. Guest posting? I entertained one to do it on my site too, but I ain’t publishing it yet. Hope your goals will be reached for the next month. 😀
