Traveler Tuesday – Megan Starr
Some travel bloggers get a taste of adventure once they travel as an adult post-college, while others like Megan Starr are just born with the innate knowledge that they want to be out and about in the world. If I had to do my website name over again it would just be Andi Fisher, I love that Megan was smart enough to just go for it! And go for it she has, traveling all over the world on a budget or not, seeking nature, concrete, and coffee!
Let’s meet travel blogger Megan!
[1] When and how did you become a traveler?
I have been traveling since I was a young kid. My family moved around a bit (in the US and internationally), so I was in and out of airports before I could spell my own name. I stayed a traveler because being on the road was the only place I felt truly like myself.
[2] What kind of traveler do you define yourself as?
I tend to like going to places that are a bit remote or off-the-path. I prefer going to places where information is lacking on the web so I have the chance to form my own opinions and thoughts about a place.
[3] What do you love most about traveling?
I love meeting people and being able to marvel at how beautiful Mother Earth is. I love being proved wrong about a place (and I love proving others wrong about a place!)
[4] What do you dislike about traveling?
I really don't like queues. In airports, train stations, anywhere. I am impatient and it is one of my worst traits that I would love to say I'm working on, but I'm not (thanks, Mom). I am also a bit claustrophobic, so I get a lot of anxiety in certain places if they are too crowded.
[5] Why should people travel?
Because you can. Not all of us have the privilege or opportunity to travel, so if you do have this privilege, use it and make a difference in the world.
[6] What famous person would you like to travel with?
Bill Murray
[7] Travel essentials – 3 things you always travel with.
A power strip, my laptop (ugh I am one of those people), and my Aeropress for coffee on the road.
[8] If you’re a foodie, what's your favorite food city? Do you have a restaurant recommendation?
I just went to Lisbon and it would be remiss of me to not put it here as the food was to-die-for… but I'll go with New York City. I can't imagine there is any city on this planet that has as diverse of a culinary scene.
[9] What's one location on your bucket list?
I've only been to Moscow, Russia, but I want to see more of the country- starting with the Kamchatka and Kola Peninsulas.
[10] Do you have a piece of advice for bloggers starting out?
If you came into blogging to ‘get free stuff', people will sense it in your writing. Come here for the right reasons and work your tail off, and you will be rewarded.

Like it? PIN it!
I would love to travel with Megan. I like you really like her attitude. I don’t get out the off-the-path places nearly enough. I think that once you start traveling the urge to go gets greater and greater.
And I’d love to travel with you!!! Thanks so much for your kind comment <3
I loved hearing about your adventures. I love to travel, too, and have done a LOT of traveling with my kiddos. I hope that when they’re older, they still have the same love of travel that you do!
Thanks so much for your comment 🙂 I hope your kids fall for travel, too! It is so educational and life-changing. I’m so happy you have introduced them to it at a young age.
Great choice and tips megan, I totally agree, bill murray is funny and definitely makes an interesting travel companion.
I can only imagine the trouble I’d get into on the road hanging out with him. Maybe it’s not such a great idea, after all 😉
How cool is it to be able travel like Megan! I will say I’m like you impatient and I definitely get anxiety when I’m around large crowds. Bill Murry, OMGoddness he is one of my favorite, funny , actors, I would love to met him also!
That makes me feel so relieved to know I’m not the only one with crowd anxiety 😛 It seriously is a pain when I want to go to a festival or market darnit! Hope you’re having a great December!
Megan sounds cool and a lot like my kind of traveler! I agree that no one should start blogging for free stuff and really not even for money. You have to love what you do!
Definitely! It took me years to realize I could do this as a business. I hobby-blogged for like seven years haha! 🙂 Thanks so much for your comment!
It is really interesting to read about the life of a travel blogger. I have never been a big fan of being away from home too long but I love the idea of seeing the world. I also love that she says she likes to be proven wrong or right about a place, I have been through both of those as well. Iowa was quite a surprise let me tell you! lol
I have to admit, I don’t like leaving home often either. I have a dog, routine, and my desk here which puts me in a comfort zone that I don’t like breaking. But I get restless too often 😛 And I will have to get back to Iowa one of these days for sure!!!
Megan sounds like my kind of traveler. I love her response to why people should travel. Because you can. YES! When you can travel you really should. Now that my kids are a bit older I am really focusing on that now. Because we can!
Yes definitely! It is a privilege that not everyone gets in the world. If we are one of the few fortunate people that have a passport and the resources to travel, let’s do it!
Girl, I am one of those who travels with her laptop too. Don’t apologize. 😉
I have a friend who also does some work on my blog and she is in Russia. Everything I see from her photography and every day life is just stunning. The only place out of the US that I have traveled is Mexico. I would love to take my family to Russia. Thailand is another place I would love to visit.
And I love that you like to travel to places that are off the path… that no one really reviews. How special and what a great way to see the world and all of it’s hidden treasures.
Thank you so much!!! Yes, I love forming my own opinion about a city/place and I struggle to do that when loads of information are telling me what to expect before arrival 🙂 I would just love to see so much more of Russia! one day, one day 🙂 I love Mexico too- we are lucky to border a country that has so much to offer!!! 🙂 have a great holiday season!
What a great interview! I traveled all over the world as a kid as well and still want to do it now as an adult.
I also feel the same way about travel writing. If you are just in it for free stuff, people totally know and they won’t read what you put out.
Yes definitely! It is really obvious by the tone. I love reading blogs from people that you can genuinely feel their love for travel. Thanks so much for your comment!
