I’m thrilled to have my first A to Z Arizona blogger from Tucson. I’ve made it no secret that I have fallen head over heels with this town in Southern Arizona just 2 hours from chez moi. In fact, I will be there again this weekend! Jenny of Love Jenny is a DIY mother with a full-time job and many full-time passions!

Let’s meet Jenny!

[1] Favorite thing about Tucson.
The sunshine! The sun shines approximately 284 days a year (yes, I looked it up), which is perfect for this sun-loving girl! Dark and cloudy days make me super lethargic and unmotivated. The sun energizes me and boosts my mood, so I’m super happy that we get plenty of it!

[2] Least favorite thing about Tucson.
The heat. It’s a dry heat (thank God!), but with summer temps regularly hitting in the 110+, it can feel like your skin is melting off! We end up spending a lot of time indoors trying to avoid it, which is a bummer.

[3] What differentiates your area of the Valley of the Sun from all the other parts?
Tucson has the advantage of being a major city without being as huge and crazy as Phoenix. We plenty of shopping and restaurants, without the wall-to-wall gridlock. We can also maintain a bit of a “small town” feel with our street fairs and Second Saturday meet-ups that happen downtown.

[4] Favorite coffee spot in Tucson.
I’m a busy working mom who doesn’t have a ton of time to try new things, so my usual coffee house go-to is Starbucks since they are EVERYWHERE!

[5] Favorite spot for drinks in Tucson.
I’m not a huge drinker, but my husband is a bit of a beer snob. So when we can sneak away, he likes to hit up local breweries like Barrio and Dragoon (800 E 16th St). If I’m actually in the mood for a drink, I like the margaritas at Blanco Tacos & Tequila (2905 E Skyline Dr).

[6] Favorite local hangout in Tucson.
My backyard! My husband and I are more homebodies than social butterflies, plus we’ve got a huge backyard (complete with a pool), so if we’re hanging out with friends, we’ll usually invite them back to our house. The kids can swim or play in the huge clubhouse, while the adults relax on the patio, under the fan, with some food and a couple of drinks. It’s pretty low-key, but that’s how we like it.

[7] Favorite breakfast spot in Phoenix.
My current favorite breakfast spot is the Bisbee Breakfast Club (4 in Tucson). I just can’t say “no” to their Blue Granola Buttermilk Hotcakes. Yum!

[8] Favorite lunch spot in Tucson.
We haven’t been here in a while, because it’s not that close to my house, but I love, love, love Bison Witches Bar & Deli (326 N 4th Ave) that’s located close to downtown. I’m obsessed with their Tucson sandwich! Throw in a bread bowl filled with Wisconsin Cheese soup and I am one happy girl. For something closer to home, I like to hit up the closest Baggins Gourmet Sandwich shops. Their a local chain and their California BLT is one of my all-time favorite sandwiches ever!

[9] Favorite dinner spot in Tucson.
Here in Arizona, we know how to do Mexican food right. So it won’t come as a surprise that our favorite dinner spot is a local Mexican restaurant, Nana’s Kitchen (8225 N Courtney Page Way). Nana’s Special Tacos, made with beef and potatoes, is my favorite item on the menu!

[10] One thing you always do/spot you always take friends from out of town to do/see.
Whenever we have out-of-town visitors, I like to take them down to 4th Avenue. We have a lot of artists here in T-Town, so there’s a bunch of cool, artsy shops to pop into down there. It’s also where we hold our twice a year street fair, that always draws a big crowd. If it’s cool enough, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is also a cool place to visit. It’s basically a zoo/botanical garden/art gallery/natural history museum/aquarium all in one! It’s been ranked as one of the Top 10 museums in the country!

[11] How do you like to beat the heat?
Beating the heat either means staying inside or getting wet! When we’re not swimming in our pool, I take the girls to one of our local splash pads. The girls also like to play at the Tucson Children’s Museum, which keeps them active, but also cool. If it’s just my husband and I, we like to catch a movie at Roadhouse Cinemas, which is a locally-owned dine-in movie theater and top it off with some cool, creamy gelato from Frost Gelato.

Thanks Jenny!

Fun interview! Living nearby in Las Vegas, I can relate to hating the heat. I also plan to keep these restaurant suggestions in mind, should I visit Tucson in the future.

Wow, I can’t believe they have that many sunny days in Tucson! I am more of a fall season kind of girl, I don’t mind the sunshine, but hot and humid is not my thing. It is nice though that they have found ways to cool down and enjoy the weather where they live. I haven’t been to Tucson or any place in Arizona. Hopefully, I can visit sometime soon.

I really enjoyed reading about Jenny. I’m live in Tucson as well and many people here complain about the heat and sun, but Jenny is like me, who just adores the sun.
Thank you Andi, for this series of interviews with Arizona Bloggers, I enjoy reading these and checking out their blogs 🙂
