A to Z – Emily of Coat + Coffee

A to Z interview series with Arizona bloggers

Some posts on this site contain affiliate links, meaning if you book or buy something through one of these links, I may earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you!). Opinions are always my own and I’ll never promote something I don’t use or believe in.

When I am doing an interview with someone, I always study their social media and their blog’s About page. As I “checked out” Emily of Coat + Coffee I really like what I read, and I loved her summation:

So, I dedicate this blog to working millennials with side hustles doing what they love. We cannot travel 24/7 or buy designer bags every week, even though the world might think so. We live a balanced life of a full-time job, a few vacations every year + weekend getaways, and a designer pair of sunnies when stress or big promotions deem it necessary.

I like Emily’s style, a travel blogger with whimsy and wit who is not afraid to admit her love (or weakness) for coffee!

Let’s meet Emily!

A to Z - Emily of Coat + Coffee 2

[1] Favorite thing about Phoenix.

The sunsets here are incredible. Some of the best I’ve ever seen despite all the other places I’ve traveled to.

[2] Least favorite thing about Phoenix.

The summer heat and the fact that we don’t get any real ‘seasons’.

[3] What differentiates your area of the Valley of the Sun from all the other parts?

I am kind of all over the place with my areas, but I mostly spend my time in the East Valley in places like Scottsdale and Tempe. I love that they have their own unique vibe and more small mom and pop shops to choose from. I grew up in the West Valley where everyone was more chain-based, so I appreciate the community that has formed in the East Valley.

[4] Favorite coffee spot inPhoenix.

That’s such a hard choice! But right now I am really obsessed with Berdena’s (7051 E 5th Ave) in Scottsdale. The baristas are so welcoming and nice, and the atmosphere cannot be beaten. In a second close tie is Futuro, which is downtown. They just have such a unique space! It’s really fun to visit.

[5] Favorite spot for drinks in Phoenix.

My kitchen because I cannot find a better gin than the one I make!

[6] Favorite local hangout in Phoenix.

The pool at the Clarendon (401 W Clarendon Av) is one of my favorite low key summer spots. I love how chill and relaxing it is. I don’t think too many people know about it, because everyone usually goes to Scottsdale for the best pools. I think that’s what I like about it. Plus they have a really good cold brew.

[7] Favorite breakfast spot in Phoenix.

Liberty Market (230 N Gilbert Rd) is my favorite stop for breakfast. Even though I live in Scottsdale, I will still make the drive to Gilbert about once or twice a month to grab some Sunday brunch. Literally, everything is good!

[8] Favorite lunch spot in Phoenix.

My coworkers recently introduced me to this hole in the wall Mexican restaurant called Mucha Lucha (9822 N 7th St ). It’s a ‘create your own’ kind of place and they have the most delicious soft tacos! They also have homemade churros filled with custard. I mean…

[9] Favorite dinner spot in Phoenix.

North Italia (4925 N 40th S), hands down. They are always so consistent with their food, the service is amazing, and the atmosphere is adorable. Nothing is bad at this restaurant.

[10] One thing you always do/spot you always take friends from out of town to do/see.

Speaking of North… I almost always take an out-of-towner to North. It’s just so good. When it’s a bit cooler out I love guiding people on a hike at South Mountain. There are so many trails and beautiful sites to see. Now that Teaspressa (4628 E Indian School Rd) opened up in Arcadia, I will definitely be taking my friends there when they visit. They have a very ‘LA’ vibe that you can’t get anywhere else here!

[11] How do you like to beat the heat?

Honestly? I stay inside most of the summer haha. Usually, I will hunker down at a coffee shop if I need to get work done. Keep the iced coffees comin’!

Thanks Emily!

You can keep up with Emily on Instagram, and of course on her blog. Wherever you catch her, I am sure you will enjoy her Arizona adventures!

Thank you for sharing this information. It is funny. When you ask most people for Arizona what can I do for fun. The answer is the trails, but you have shown us there is must more to do besides the trails and golf in the gorgeous city

I have never been to Arizona but I have heard such nice things about the state. I wish our budget was able to handle more travel because it is definitely a state I would like to visit one day. Hopefully one day that will happen.

There are still so many places in the US that I haven’t been to. Arizona is right there on the list, and hopefully we get to visit during cooler weather. Thanks for letting me know about Emily. She sure seems like a really great person.
