7 Tips For Travel Bloggers
If traveling is your passion and you like to share your stories, you might think about starting a travel blog. It’s an amazing way to record your experiences, plus you can turn it into a project to make money. Starting a new blog comes with a few challenges, as a beginner, you’ll want all the help that you can get. To help you start your journey, focus on these seven simple tips.

1. Build your personal brand
There are plenty of travel bloggers out there, all producing similar content. If you want to stand out in the crowd, you’ve got to build a personal brand and find your niche. Focus on what makes you unique. You’ll need to showcase your personality and show your audience what’s special about you.
Some posts on this site contain affiliate links, meaning if you book or buy something through one of these links, I may earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you!). Opinions are always my own and I’ll never promote something I don’t use or believe in. Also as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Building a brand means thinking carefully about your brand story. How do you want to be remembered? How do you want your audience to perceive you? If you’re not sure where to begin there are plenty of useful personal branding articles online.
2. Read for inspiration
If you want to create a popular travel blog you’ve got to read lots of inspirational materials. Reading widely will help you curate plenty of ideas, and find a unique voice for yourself.

There are plenty of reading materials that will help including:
- A wide range of travel blogs.
- Content produced by travel influencers.
- Travel articles and books.
- Travel-themed podcasts.
3. Video blogs can boost engagement
If you’re keen to boost engagement on your website it’s a good idea to use video content. Audiences love watching travel vlogs, these videos help them get an authentic feel for the destinations. Creating video blog content can take a little practice. It’s good to have a plan and have a theme in mind. Your theme might be based on a certain travel activity, cuisine, or a location?

Whatever your video style is, either helping and/or entertaining your audience is the most important thing. From a marketing perspective video is an amazing way to boost conversions and keep on growing your audience.
Here are some tips for making better vlogs.
4. Optimize your laptop
If you’re writing travel articles on the go, you’ll need to ensure that you optimize your laptop. Do not underestimate the importance of tech! I have spent a lot of time honing my mobile workspace over the years!

Ensure that you have enough storage space, (a lack of storage can affect the performance of your device). It’s a good idea to clean out your device every now and then, removing files that you no longer need. If you’re not sure which files you can delete, you might want to use software to clean up your device. To learn more about clearing space on your Mac (that's what I have, sorry, I am sure it is similar for PCs!) check out the Maw Paw site here.
At the same time, you’ll want to make sure that you have the right security protection for your device. Invest in anti-virus protection and cloud security software.
5. Keep notes for inspiration
If you’re a travel blogger you should carry a notebook with you wherever you go. You might not always be writing, but if an idea pops into your head, you’ll need somewhere to scribble it down. I also recommend taking lots of photos to use for notes and to write down things at the end of each day.

If you prefer you might like to keep voice notes? There are also plenty of useful travel apps which can help you to keep a journal. Writing a journal is an amazing way to preserve memories of your travels.
6. Improve your photography skills
To become a great travel blogger you’ll need some great photography skills. Whether you use a specialty camera or an iPhone, photography takes a little practice. The best thing to do is to read up on a few tips online (here are 6 useful ones!). You might take a look at photography podcasts, articles, or books as well. There are lots of different ways that you can get inspiration.

7. Get advice where you can
When you’re starting out as a travel blogger it’s great to get all the advice that you can. Reach out to a travel blogger who you admire, ask them if they could give you a little bit of advice. You might find a mentor or a few networking opportunities? It’s also helpful to join travel blogging communities. When you connect with the right people, there are plenty of ways to expand your horizons.

Using these simple tips you’ll soon be able to launch and improve your travel blog. Remember writing is about practice, and experimenting with different styles. Once you’ve done a little bit of experimentation, you’ll soon find your voice. Ask for feedback from other writers, to help you improve over time. If you’re looking for an adventure in 2022, travel blogs are the way to go.
