Weekly Wanderings #53 – Zion

So Zion. As you know from last week's Weekly Wanderings we visited Zion National Park on Thursday in the rain to scope out shooting locations. On Friday it rained in the morning so we spent it in the St. George's Starbucks catching up on all things digital and then was checked out Snow Canyon State Park followed by a late afternoon-turned-sunset visit at Kolob Canyon. While we were doing … [Read more...]

More Capture the Colour Photos

Mr. Misadventures and I had so much fun selecting the photos for my Capture the Colour entry that we got a little over enthusiastic and couldn't really help but pick more photos than we actually needed! Instead of "wasting" them I decided to do another post with the photos I didn't ultimately select for the entry post. So here are my additional photos for each of the colors, I hope you enjoy … [Read more...]

Southwest Road Trip 2012 Day 3: Zion to Page

Having missed the sunrise at the Zion National Park Museum the previous day, we woke up at 5:30 (again) so that we could get there in time to see it happen!  Mr. Misadventures headed to the meadow behind the museum to set-up his camera and I parked myself on a bench very jealous of the others around me who had nice warm mugs of coffee in hand as they waited the arrival of the sun! It was pretty … [Read more...]

Misadventures in Macro Photography

Who knew that macro photography could be so fraught with danger. Okay, maybe that is a little too dramatic. It's more likely that when you combine a total klutz (me) with learning a new skill (photography) and a propensity for taking photos up close things are just bound to happen. In reality most of my misadventures have had nothing to do with me being klutz which is a whole other aspect of life … [Read more...]

(Not quite) Wordless Wednesday #158: Zion Park Overlook Canyon Sap

Am I the only one that geeks out on macro photography like this?  Granted, it's not food but I think I took about 20 shots of these darn drops of sap coming off a split trunk while hiking on the Overlook Trail in Zion. I get a big kick out of taking photos of stuff like this; yes, I would rather have food as a subject, but this is how I entertained myself while we were on our 10-day … [Read more...]

Southwest Road Trip 2012 Day 2: Zion National Park (Part 2)

In part 1 of Day 2 of my 10-day Southwest road trip we spent a good chunk of the day driving the Zion-Mt. Carmel road.  After lunch and driving back through the park we headed in and passed Springdale heading to Virgin, Utah where we would catch the road heading up to Kolob Terrace (if you reach the post office you've passed it). Kolob Terrace is a 21-mile drive to Lava Point. It is a pretty … [Read more...]

(Not quite) Wordless Wednesday #157: Zion Park Overlook Canyon Trail Flower

I took this photo from the Zion Park Overlook Canyon Trail, there were plenty of flowers of all colors, but red is my favorite. I am always amazed out how vibrant the colors of flowers are in the desert, it is something I find fascinating! After a long delay I have finally started getting the post out from my 10-day Southwest road trip.  If you missed Day 1 or Day 2 you can catch up here and … [Read more...]

Southwest Road Trip 2012 Day 2: Zion National Park (Part 1)

On Day 1 of my 10-day Southwest road trip we drove from Las Vegas to Springdale, Utah at the base of Zion National Park.  Day 2 we woke at 5:30 a.m. (which definitely felt like the 4:30 in the morning it was in California) so that we could catch the very first shuttle into Zion. But as is the style of the Misadventures family, as we were standing at the shuttle stop, we changed our minds and … [Read more...]

Southwest Road Trip 2012 Day 1: Las Vegas to Zion

A lot of my offline friends have been interested in how Mr. Misadventures and I organized our 10-day Southwest road trip, plus I owe you guys posts on what I was up to.  So I am combining the information as a way to kill two birds with one stone. There are couple of things that you should know first off.  To begin with, this trip was entirely planned by Mr. Misadventures.  Taking photos of the … [Read more...]
