Valley of Fire State Park – Fire Wave and Pink Canyons

We have visited Valley of Fire State Park many times over the last few years. It continues to be one of my favorite parks, which is saying a lot because I'm not a huge fan of hot weather or the desert, although I do think the desert in the winter is spectacular. The park is an hour's drive from Las Vegas and we always try to come out whenever we go to Sin City. I used to go several times a year … [Read more...]

Weekly Wanderings #52 – Las Vegas/Zion

52 weeks! Is it possible that we have been on the road one year? It is truly hard to fathom. I'm writing part of this post from the Starbucks in St. George, Utah because it's (a) raining and (b) the wifi in the RV park is not awesome...the story of my (current) life. We left the Palm Springs area last Sunday and drove to Las Vegas. The forecast for Monday showed rain, so after quickly setting … [Read more...]

More Capture the Colour Photos

Mr. Misadventures and I had so much fun selecting the photos for my Capture the Colour entry that we got a little over enthusiastic and couldn't really help but pick more photos than we actually needed! Instead of "wasting" them I decided to do another post with the photos I didn't ultimately select for the entry post. So here are my additional photos for each of the colors, I hope you enjoy … [Read more...]

Capture the Colour – A Journey Through Travel Photos

Wow this was a tough assignment! But an excellent exercise as it forced Mr. Misadventures and I to review all our photos (thousands!) and have great discussions on improvements we will be making on our upcoming trips.  It also made me realize how lucky I am to have traveled to as many places as I have as well as igniting the fires to discover more. Capture the Colour is a photo contest hosted … [Read more...]

(Not quite) Wordless Wednesday #150: Chevrolet Airplane

While visiting the Valley of Fire State Park we stopped at the Visitor's Center where they were having a car show.  Nothing like being out on black asphalt in the middle of the desert in a metal box, but hey these guys will do anything to show off their babies! We stopped to take photos and buy extra bottles of ice cold water sold by a local Boy Scouts troop - never so happy to see Walmart water, … [Read more...]

Valley of Fire State Park Redux (but in Macro!)

Last August I visited the Valley of Fire State Park with Mr. Misadventures.  It was 110 degrees.  I took photos, but I didn't leave the car much... This past December we planned a return trip for the Spring thinking it would be cooler.  So not knowing that I would be staying in Vegas for two weeks working back-to-back tradeshows, we planned a weekend where we would stay at the Element and do … [Read more...]

Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada

A few weeks ago I met Mr. Misadventures in Las Vegas. He had been at a conference on the strip all week and by the time I arrived he was anxious to get out of town! We got up very early to drive the hour to the Valley of Fire State Park, the oldest state park in Nevada. When we reached Highway 40/Highway 169, the road that we took into the park, it was deserted, seriously, we parked the car and … [Read more...]
