Project Discover Week #11

Have you ever dreamed of living on a houseboat? I have! I love the water and for most of my adult life, I have lived very close to some water source.  When we go on our walks along the Columbia River we pass a slew of houseboats, including the one above. However, we didn't have the clear weather shown in the photo. Instead this week, we had days and days of rain. We did manage to get in three … [Read more...]

Project Discover Week #9

We spent most of the week boiling in Phoenix. There was a 40-degree temperature difference between Portland and Phoenix and that's way too much for Mr. Misadventures and I! Also, we arrived on Monday, the day the NCAA championship game was taking place so it was a little bit nutty. Bonus though, being that we were at my parent's house, I actually got to see the game. Although it was not a great … [Read more...]

Project Discover Week #8

As a reminder, Project Discover was spawned from my 2017 word of the year, discover. My main life priority right now is finding a new professional adventure.  After a year-long sabbatical, Mr. Misadventures and I have set up camp in the Pacific Northwest, restarting our careers in an area of the country we've always wanted to live in.  Besides looking for a job I am focused on three things: … [Read more...]

Project Discover Week #7

I promised myself after last week's cake photo that I wouldn't distract you with food photos, but when it comes to this week, it is apropos. Mr. Misadventures and I are saying goodbye to carbs for awhile and hello to beans, greens and proteins.  We both need to lose weight, not just because I want to get back into my former clothes, but now also because our doctors have said we must. Being the … [Read more...]

Project Discover Week #6

This week we are discovering the inside of a hotel room! Remember that little trouble we ran into in the snow in Idaho our last week on the road? Well, our RV is now in the shop getting repaired. Does anyone else hate the whole chicken/egg game between insurances and body shops/garages? Someday we will get our rig back and we can go to the RV park and continue our job search in peace! Until then … [Read more...]

Project Discover Week #5

Since we arrived in Portland on February 1st, every week seems a little different.  It's hard to get into a routine, which would usually be just fine, but Mr. Misadventures is studying for a certification so it kind of screws up his study schedule. I'm also trying to keep a routine with the blogging, focusing on certain things every day and trying not to get distracted by the thousand directions I … [Read more...]

Project Discover Week #4

We hit our one month anniversary in Portland! Arriving here, we have had a bit of baptism by fire. It has rained almost every day we've been here for some part of the day. My family was stationed in Washington state during my last three years of high school, so I remember what winter is like. But, it's been awhile since either Mr. Misadventures or I have experienced a real rainy season.  It's … [Read more...]

Project Discover Week #3

It was a week out of the norm for us.  Or at least the norm we developed the first two weeks of living in Portland. The holiday on Monday definitely slowed down the job hunt.  There weren't a lot of new jobs to apply for so I spent the day taking Michelle Schroeder-Gardner's online (self-paced) course Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing. I picked up some great tips and tricks which I will begin … [Read more...]

Project Discover Week #2

Is it weird that I like the sound of airplanes taking off and landing? Or seeing them do the same? We live near the airport and I love hearing and seeing the planes leave for some far off destination or bringing folks to wet, wet Portland.  Although it probably isn't great for two travel addicted people. We are already talking about where we want to go to next "...when we have jobs..." Week 2 … [Read more...]
