Saturday Six #94

Saturday Six #94I spent half the week in Los Angeles for the Grammy’s rehearsals and the weather in Los Angeles was absolutely gorgeous! A perfect 75 degrees, which is about twenty degrees warmer than it is in San Francisco right now and way too many to count for my friends in France!  I will blog about my experience attending the Grammy’s rehearsals for the second year in a row, but I did a tiny post on Dolby’s new Tumblr today if you want to take a peek at that.

In the meantime, let’s take a look at this week’s Saturday Six picks:

[1] A Jennifer James’s post this week on Jen X Generation really touched my heart. Writing about her father suffering from multiple diseases including Alzheimer’s and dementia, it reminded me of how my grandparents suffered with the same. But the message about always telling the truth was quite powerful too.  It is an edict I live by and it makes people uncomfortable.  People don’t want to hear the truth, they want to hear sugar-coating and politically correct, and I just can’t deliver it.  It doesn’t make life always easy, but it makes it liveable for me.

[2] Japan, or Tokyo specifically, is in my top five favorite places in the world.  There are so many dichotomies within a single tiny nation, it is fascinating.  You must just visit it.  It is indescribable, yet Kristin of Camels & Chocolate does a really good job of detailing some of the reasons to love Japan.

[3] I love how Lindsey of Lost in Cheeseland is keeping it real.  I get a lot of emails asking about visiting Paris (and I love them!) and seems like Lindsey does too.  In my opinion, managing expectations in life is an important and essential skill to have in order to be a happy person, and this is especially important when there is a big experience that is about to be had, whether it be a wedding, a baby, or visiting the City of Light and Lindsey has written a great post on managing your Paris expectations.

[4] It is no secret that I love dim sum, you only have to follow my Four Square check-ins or my Instagram or Footspotting photos to see that dim sum is a regular part of my life!  So I love it that SF Foodie has published their Top 10 Dim Sum spots in San Francisco, and inadvertently created a dim sum bucket list for me!

[5] And this will require some travel (oh darn) but I MUST try every sandwich on the America’s Best Sandwiches list put together on Endless Simmer because my God they look amazing!  Anyone want to join me on a sandwich road trip?

[6]  I will end with some humor.  There are hundreds of these Shit X Says videos going around.  I recently posted a Shit Silicon Valley People Say and Shit San Franciscoans Say to my Facebook page, and thought this Shit Travel Bloggers Say was funny as well.  Posted on Adventurous Kate’s blog this week.

That’s it for this week!

  1. I loved all of these pics!!!!

  2. Thanks, Andi. Your blog is so entertaining and interesting with all the food and adventures, but always emerging are these threads of truth that keep it real and balanced and full of life. It’s just one of the many reasons I keep returning.

  3. Thank you, Andi! I’ve loved following your Grammy prep pictures – can’t wait to see more!

  4. You get to go to the Grammys rehearsals? How fun! I’m so curious to hear how the mood will be post-Whitney tonight.

    • @Kristin, I was there Wed-Fri, already home and will watch it from my living room, the Whitney thing is a real bummer and will impact the mood of the show for sure.
