Saturday Six #73

Saturday Six on Saturday this week – progress! I hope all is well out there. As for myself,  I am dreaming of a vacation, seems like years since I was in Brittany eating my way through good food and good cider! What I wouldn’t give for a quick trip to Paris to see my blogging friends. There is a meet-up September 7th and sadly I will be stuck in North America!  Not that I am complaining as that very day I will be in Toronto at the Toronto International Film Festival for work (plus I am staying one day for me!).  But I sure would love to see my friends….

But I’ve got Paris here! A couple of this week’s picks focus on Paris as well as food, two of my favorite things!

[1] As I write this I am one hour away from enjoying dim sum for brunch, something Mr. Misadventures and I do nearly every weekend.  I cannot get enough of Chinese dumplings!  That’s why Maggie’s post on authentic Chinese dumplings this past week over at the Eat Boutique was right up my alley!

[2] You can’t live in Berkeley and be a foodie without having a great admiration of Alice Waters and Chez Panisse.  The restaurant is an institution and Alice is the mother of all organic, sustainable, farm-to-table movements in the Unites States.  Her presence created Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto which thrives today, always trying something new, like the weekly Off the Grid food-truck meet-up taking place within this foodie haven. Chez Panisse has also spawned many great chefs including David Lebovitz, pastry chef extraordinaire who now resides in Paris.  I loved his write up this week which celebrates the 40th anniversary of Chez Panisse.

(I am going back to Chez Panisse on Sept 23rd and cannot wait!)  Also, Food Gal wrote about another Berkeley institution this past week, The Cheese Board.

[3] San Francisco is COLD in the summer. People don’t think about that when they are planning vacations here.  Come from mid-September to October and you will get our summer. I love reading people’s impressions of the city, like when photographer Kyle Hepp came in March (Saturday Six #59, see #1). This week it was Jenna and Mark of Sweet Fine Day and they had absolutely gorgeous photos despite the fact that San Francisco is cold!

[4] I have always enjoyed the writing style of food blogger Jen of Use Real Butter.  She posts recipes and beautiful photos, a given for a food blog, but she always adds a story so that each post is a complete experience and it is really unique. This past week she blogged about a fellow food blogger, Jennie of In Jennie’s Kitchen, who has recently suffered the loss of her husband.  Jen shared her thoughts on it and demonstrated to me the powerful nature of the blogging community while also sharing a yummy recipe.

Now a little bit of Paris…..

[5] Knowing proper etiquette is important when you travel, but it is not always easy to figure out.  There is a lot of unspoken rules.  That’s why I loved this post from Haven In Paris that shared “tips on making small talk a la Parisienne,” there is no better way to figure out the signals than learning from someone else who is trying to master it themselves!

[6] I mentioned Kyle Hepp above and shared her post about San Francisco.  This week she takes us to the Place de Vosges, a wonderful little spot in Paris.  I was there on my visit last October and could have spent hours just strolling the corridors and photographing the scenery.  Which is exactly what Kyle did!

That it’s for this week!

How about you? Have any good posts you discovered in your blogosphere journeys that you want to share?

  1. Thank you so much Miss Andi! I feel so special because I’ve browsed through your links before, so it’s really cool to be named on there! I appreciate the shout out!

  2. I’d rather be going to Toronto for that film festival too!! You get to do some really awesome stuff with your job, Andi, and know how to “play” hard. I think you have the best of both worlds!!

Great articles this week! I have a recent weakness for any post in honor of Jennie Perillo….

  3. Hope you do get to check out the Cheese Board. I know you aren’t keen on pizza, but the breads, pastries and mega assortment of cheese will have you swooning — big time! 😉

  4. Hope you did make it to the Cheese Board for all those great breads and my fave English muffins. Love that place! 😉
