Saturday Six #140

Saturday-Six-Feb28

Hello everyone! I am writing from Yosemite which just had its first snow of the season last night! We road-tripped it up here (and I brought everything I mentioned in my perfect roadtrip bag, even the sardines!).  I am staying at the lovely Tenaya Lodge and there will be more on my trip in a post later next week.

In the meantime, if you are new here, Saturday Six is my [almost] weekly series where I share blog posts I’ve loved while out doing my internet travels.  I’ve got a full house this week!  So let’s get started.

[1] I would be remiss if I did not mention my fellow roadtrip blog hoppers!  These lovely ladies have all written very unique posts on what is in their perfect roadtrip bag and I can tell you I wouldn’t mind traveling with any of them!  Take the time to visit and see.  You’ll notice we are doing a giveaway.  Every comment on the eight blogs gets you an entry for a Kindle Fire HD6 and a Travelon Anti-Theft Classic Backpack.  We have a second bonus giveaway too!

Esther of Local Adventurer

Christina of Christina’s Cucina

Brianna of Casual Travelist

Colleen of Colleen Brynn Travels

Jenna of This is My Happiness

[2] And because I can’t get enough of good road trip posts, I really loved this one from Jessica at Team Wiking. I have been reading Jessica’s blog for several months, she lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and has a knack for finding locations I haven’t heard of!  She takes AMAZING photos and has adorable kids! (P.S. she is also super classy, check out how she responds to a perturbed commenter in the comments section.)

[3] My bloghop crew is missing one blogger and I keenly feel her absence. My longtime friend Jennifer James is on a blog sabbatical but left a final essay that I find to be beautifully written, classic Jennifer and wonderfully poignant.  Jennifer, you are missed…

[4] As I have mentioned many times before, I leave in a built sustainably house that includes solar.  I have a deep appreciation for hotels that are sustainably built and follow green practices.  That’s why I really appreciated Murissa of The Wanderfull Traveler’s post on a few sustainable hotels around the world.

[5] On the lighter side, I could not help but laugh and smile while reading Tawnya of All of Life’s Little Adventures post where she shared the behind the scenes of her Instagram photos.  Every blogger can appreciate this one!

[6] I gave you way more than 6 blogs to read in the 5 mentions above!

My Weekly Fantasy Meal

I am all about the egg, this week my fantasy meal is full of them:

> As an amuse-bouche I am having Buffalo chicken deviled eggs from Butter, Basil and Breadcrumbs.
> My main course is Mazemen ramen noodles with sesame ginger garlic beef and savoury miso gravy with a fresh egg yolk and roasted-nori (you got all that?!) from I am a Food Blog.
> For dessert I’m having dulce de leche cheesecake from David Lebovitz.

Happenings in the Misadventures household

I am happy to have a bunch of little trips on the horizon, such a different story than the second half of 2014 when I was nursing a recuperating cat – now, I am free!  One trip I am really looking forward to is going back to the big island of Hawaii!  I had such an amazing time there last year.  Since that trip I have been keeping an eye on what’s going on there and I wanted to share two fun things.

It is snowing in many places around the world – including Kona! When I visited Greenwell Coffee Farms in March I had just missed out on seeing the Kona snow, but they sent me a photo of what it looks like right now (it’s nice to have friends!)!

Kona Snow
Kona Snow refers to the coffee blossoms. Each branch of the coffee trees are lined with multiple white flowers that sit atop each branch just like fallen snow. The flowers fill the air with a gardenia-like fragrance.

Kona coffee is amazing, Tom Greenwell is a legend and Greenwell Farm tours are always FREE!  Can’t wait to go back in June!

I’ve written about the Joie de Vivre hotel properties in Hawaii before. The Shoreline Hotel Waikiki’s is having a birthday in April and they are offering some fun happenings and specials for the entire month, including its “Icing on the Cake” offer, a birthday-themed Pedal Bike Tour showcasing Shoreline’s favorite local haunts and Happy Town Hawaii’s Limited Edition Anniversary Totes by Oahu-based designer Tamar Wong. Check them all out on the Joie de Vivre’s “Specials” page.

That’s it for this week!

How about you? What have you been up to?  Is there a really great post you read recently that you want to share?

  1. Thank you, Andi. This has proven to be a much-needed break. I’m doing a lot of reflecting and spending time going through my archive and learning from so many mistakes. (Did I really write 350 posts that were fewer than 25 words in length?) I shudder. =) Mostly, this time is helping me really focus on my brand. This is an exercise I’ve resisted, but now feel the freedom to pursue. Fear of success can be a real trap. This is a spiritual journey for me now. Your friendship and support over the years has been remarkable. I’m never letting you go!!

First snow of the season?!? We have been inundated with snow in PA. There is a big(ish) storm headed to us tomorrow again and I just shoveled out our parking space from the last one. Boo! As for what I’ve been up to…just celebrated with my sister for her 33rd birthday and got the wonderful news that I’m going to be an aunt for the second time come September! Yippee!

  10. I’ve been wanting a Kindle Fire for a while now.
    Thanks for the contest.

  11. Oooh…I LOVE Yosemite! I’ve only been once and it was in late summer, so I haven’t seen snow there, but I can only imagine how pretty it is. I am so jealous you’re going to Hawaii…I’m not even a beachy person, but that is high on my very long bucket list. Can’t wait to see what you report back from that trip :). Enjoy your stay at Yosemite!

  13. This post is packed with so much goodness! Pinning for sure so I can check out all those road trippers. Those buffalo deviled eggs look amazingly fancy, and I’m so jealous you get to go back to the Big Island. We got married there and it’s so special. We are going to Maui for a wedding so I can’t complain too much, but I can’t wait to see your pictures! Thanks for bringing so much sunshine to my weekend Andi!

  16. Thank you for the road trip! Can you believe when I was a senior in HS my parents invited me to go to Hawaii but I preferred staying home to have a big party! Agh! So Hawaii is on my Bucklet List, even more so now!

I once met Jennifer James in NYC at a WaterAid get together. She is fabulous and really a rock star. Now wonder you miss her!

    Lovely post.

  23. Hi Andi, I just got back from my 2-week vacation in Vietnam to celebrate Lunar New Year. I just want to stop by to say hi. I ate lots of seafood (snails, shells, clams, fish, crabs, etc). You’ve traveled much, do you like crabs?

  24. I have always wanted to go to Yosemite! One day! Thanks for the list of the other blogs!

@Nelly, you should, but do NOT going during summer, it is so crazy there! Spring and Fall are the best.
