Refine and Redefine

Happy New Years 2016

Dear readers,

Happy 2016!  I wanted to take the opportunity to wish you the very best for the new year to come.  It will definitely be an interesting one for me and I hope you continue to visit Misadventures with Andi and support this little blogger.

Seven plus years in and I am eternally grateful to all my readers and commenters who making writing in my little corner of the world so fulfilling!

For the last couple of years, at the beginning of January I have reflected on what word I want to use as a mission statement for the next 365 days. And for the last 3 years it’s been REFINE. Selected in 2013, tried again in 2014 and again in 2015!

refine-redefineThe realization I came to (along with Mr. Misadventures) is that I need to get off the merry-go-round of life for a bit to figure out just exactly what that is. Because trying to figure it out while perusing a full-time career (at least with the work ethic that is core to my personality) just wasn’t possible. I am well aware that this is not a method that everyone can employ, so I know that I am lucky to have the opportunity to take a year’s sabbatical to figure out what is next.

Selling our house and cars and down-sizing our possessions certainly helped me refine my life a bit more. I finally got to a more minimalist amount of things. My clothes are one third of a tiny closest and all my other possessions fit in a 40′ RV with an emphasis on what food I can bring with me rather than what stuff.

In 2015 I went from being a DINK (dual income no kids) to being a SINK (single income no kids) to being a FINK (freelance income no kids). And while I am officially on sabbatical for 2016 I am using the time as an opportunity to see if I can make enough of a living with Misadventures with Andi and other freelance writing.

The impact to Misadventures with Andi will be, in my opinion, minimal.

I like storytelling, it is how I share my experiences with you.

So while you will see more content that is sponsored, it will ALWAYS be in the form of storytelling.

If I wouldn’t personally use it, eat it or visit it, I am not going to write about it.

However, there will likely be different products than before.  I am living on the road without access to a lot of the food items I was used to living in the mega urban San Francisco Bay Area, that means access to different products and food.  But I will always be seeking out the most fresh and organic food items that I can, I think the story of this mission to sty true to my eating style will be an interesting one.

I will continue to have and will likely increase affiliate links to products I like or use. Affiliate links come at no additional cost to you, I may get a commission if you make a purchase. It’s another way I earn a little bit of money and potentially expose you to great products or services. I often buy products recommended by bloggers, I hope you will too.

It will not all be about the RV!

I will continue to write about food, about travel, about San Francisco where I spent the last 10 years.  Paris will continue to show up as I am a die hard francophile with a French husband.  Jessica will be around too.

Thank you again for all your support and I look forward to visiting you and reading your stories throughout 2016!

What are you refining or redefining in 2016?

This was great! I wish you the best of luck in 2016. I am going to redefine the way I eat. I need to eat healthier to be healthier. I believe I need to stop living to eat and start eating to live.

    • Andi Fisher says:

@Lisa, I am definitely looking to change my eating habits and getting healthier. I have quite a few corporate pounds I need to get rid of!

  2. Wow! How exciting! I find this so inspiring that you are going on a new adventure and completely changing things up to see what works best for you and the Mr. That is SO cool…I can’t wait to hear how the year unfolds for you! Good luck and have FUN!

I Wish you A New Year Full of Happiness and Success on your endeavors! You have really been defining your life! Best of luck to you! The only thing that I am defining is organization in my Home. My Daughter, husband and 5 children lived with us for 6 yrs.. They have now found their own place and I have been trying to get everything back to the way it was. I am concentrating on getting things all organized. Throwing away or giving away things we don’t need to make room for the things we need. I have been working on this for a year now . Things are a lot better, but I am still trying to improve on everything.. 😉

  7. Wow, that must have been a major and tough decision to make and I admire you for it. I like your refining idea. It is a little daunting for me right now but it makes a lot of sense. Hopefully, I could do the same in the future. Cheers to our goals and to everything that we have yet to achieve this year. I look forward to reading about your adventure, food trips, and travels.

  8. Well I have realized that I spend too much time in the rat race for mediocre to no pay, so I’m redefining my blog space…I’m going back to 2009 a little and making it more about the fun of writing something up to keep my memory banks than chasing the 30 sponsored blog post. My word for 2016 is balance. Happy New Year sounds exciting to travel and live in an RV! Bes of luck!

  9. More RV! More RV! (You have a luxury RV style that I think might be quite appealing to people.) 🙂

  11. That’s a great word choice for the year. I still haven’t picked a word yet. We actually did the opposite and bought a fairly big house.

  12. I’m working on home. I sold my house to take care of a sick family member. She has been terrible to us. We’re waiting for our new home to come through short sell. So, my focus will be making a home for us.

  13. I just had to click over and read about your RV experience. #Jealous Seriously! My husband and I have been talking about next steps in life, and I mentioned getting a camper and going across the country… he liked it! I’m so interested to see how it works out for you. We won’t be doing it this year, I don’t think. I need to work on boosting side gigs first. But we’re young and childless, so I’m subscribing to see how you pull it off! So cool!

  14. I’m redefining my blog and my time this year. I did cut back to one blog this past year and turned one over to my sister. I’d like to post more on the things I love vs all sponsored post. Happy New Year to you and yours.

  26. This was great! I wish you the best of luck in 2016. I am going to redefine my family time! Loved your post!

  27. I love France as well, my aunt and uncle used to live there. Now one of my best friends has an apartment there. I so am in need of a trip soon. Good luck with your adventure and much success in 2016.

  28. Definitely doing the whole refining thing right now. We lost our home so cutting back is essential. If I don’t need it or use it, I toss it, donate it, etc. I’m also redefining what it is to live. Too many people get stuck just going through the motions of life and that’s not living. I want to do more than just exist.
