Weekly Wanderings #52 – Las Vegas/Zion

52 weeks! Is it possible that we have been on the road one year? It is truly hard to fathom. I'm writing part of this post from the Starbucks in St. George, Utah because it's (a) raining and (b) the wifi in the RV park is not awesome...the story of my (current) life. We left the Palm Springs area last Sunday and drove to Las Vegas. The forecast for Monday showed rain, so after quickly setting … [Read more...]

Weekly Wanderings #50 – Palm Springs

It's the last weekend of 2016, can you believe it??!! I hope your Christmas holiday was everything that you wanted it to be.  As for Mr. Misadventures and I, it was nothing short of exhilarating! We left the RV at 7 a.m. and headed to Joshua Tree National Park. We decided to go through the south entrance from Interstate 10 (Cottonwood Springs) and make our way up through the park to the … [Read more...]

Weekly Wanderings #49 – Surprise AZ

Merry Christmas Eve! The BIG day is tomorrow. Months of shopping and prepping and planning will be over. I for one will be happy to see it go although to be honest I have been out of the realm of retail madness for the last few weeks. I'm not one for the holidays and I would like to be able to go to Target without facing a madhouse! We left Elephant Butte last Saturday, stayed a night in … [Read more...]

Weekly Wanderings #48 – Elephant Butte

After (mostly) ten days of laziness in Key West and then seven days driving (eight days total as we spent an extra day in San Antonio) we had a nice week in Elephant Butte in New Mexico. On Saturday, we re-scouted Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge for sunrise, sunset and full moon photos. Last time we were here was in February and the water levels in different spots were different, … [Read more...]

Weekly Wanderings #47 – On The Road

We traveled on I-10 West for daaaayyyyyssss.......  We hit it last Friday when we drove through Tampa. We stayed in North Tampa that evening. Then Tallahassee on Saturday.  Given that Key West is the southernmost spot in the U.S., it took us four days to get out of Florida! We hit rain in Tampa and Tallahassee and Sunday we stayed in Mobile where there were major thunderstorms.  Didn't prevent … [Read more...]

Weekly Wanderings #46 – Key West & On The Road

The ten days we were in our little RV oasis in Key West were simply perfect. One day blended into the next. I didn't know the dates, most times I didn't know the day.  It was exactly what I needed.  We had done something similar for ten days at Newport Beach on the coast, but it was a little different - cold, foggy, without internet.  I read lots of books and watched lots of CNN. This time, in … [Read more...]

Weekly Wanderings #45 – Key West

I hope all my American friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday.  For my friends in Paris and beyond, hope it was a good Thursday ;-) We tried to go to the beach.  And we succeeded.  We arrived at 8:00 a.m. to get a good spot at Bahia Honda State Park. We got a great spot, in fact we were the only ones there! But then at 9:30 it started pouring down rain and we were forced home.  … [Read more...]

RV Eating for the Holidays

DISCLOSURE: This post is brought to you by Lucerne® Dairy Farms and Safeway.  All opinions and holiday meals I eat are of my own choosing, but these guys brought a little bit of home (the West coast) to us here in the Florida Keys. As I've shared before, living and traveling in a RV, I can become a little disassociated with what's going on in the world. I can go days without knowing the date … [Read more...]

Weekly Wanderings #44 – Ft. Myers

It's been a super fun, jam-packed week! Monday we visited the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, a 2.25 mile nature trail created by the Audubon Society. We saw birds, a beautiful dragonfly and some adorable raccoons. They were much smaller than the huge city raccoons we had trouble with in Berkeley! It's a shorter walk but I still prefer the Six Mile Cypress Slough (which we visited twice last week). … [Read more...]

Weekly Wanderings #43 – Ft. Myers

When I last left you we were headed to Orlando for a Freightliner appointment. That appointment was for a 2-3 hour service beginning at 9 a.m. We left at 4:30! The bright spot of our day was finding an amazing barbecue place for lunch, but other than that it pretty much sucks to be at the mercy of a mechanic. Leaving at the time we did put us right in the middle of commute traffic as we … [Read more...]
