Westfield Wednesday – Tastemaker Tara of Food and Other Things

I thought it would be fun to introduce to the other Westfield Tastemakers. Westfield Labs and Westfield San Francisco Centre chose five San Francisco Bay Area foodies to team up with chefs to collaborate on secret menu dishes that are only available from the Westfield Dine on Time App.

As you know, I worked withe amazing Chef Tony Wu of M.Y. China to create a lamb shui mai dish.  The other four bloggers all worked with different restaurants and each and every one of them came up with wonderful dishes.

Tara is an adorable and insatiable food blogger at Food and Other Things.  She created Glazed Indonesian Chili Prawns with Straits Chef Julian Yeo.  What I loved most about her experience is how personally connected she is to Straights.  You can read the full details in her post, but her parents met there!

I was thrilled to get to meet Tara at the launch party (see her recap here) and even more pleased when she agreed to answer a few questions about her experience.

(1) What was your favorite thing about your Westfield Tastemaker+Chef experience?

Definitely meeting with Chef Julian Yeo and coming up with ideas to create our exclusive dish! It is not every day where I get a chance to sneak a peak in the mind of a chef. Learning his thought process and experiencing his creativity was so humbling for me.

(2) Besides the amazing Westfield San Francisco Centre restaurants, what’s your favorite go-to restaurant in San Francisco?

This is probably one of the hardest questions I get asked because you really cannot go wrong in San Francisco. Marlowe (near AT&T Park) has great portion sizes and their lines are not too crazy. Their steak tartare is my favorite of all time.  [I love their Brussels spouts!]

(3) Outside of San Francisco (and the San Francisco Bay Area) where is your favorite city to eat?

I would say NYC just because they are the only city (in my opinion) that rivals San Francisco’s diverse restaurant community and population.
If I was thinking outside of the US, I would have to go with one of the cities in Sichuan province of China. Their specialty is cooking with hua jiao peppers that leave your mouth numb from the spiciness. It’s the best kind of feeling.

(4) Can you please share a tip for aspiring bloggers who are just starting out?

Just keep writing! Every blogger gets down because they feel like nobody is reading their blog at one point. Personally, blogging takes more time than I ever thought it would but I love going back and reading my old posts and meeting all the friends I have made along the way. It really makes it worth it to me.
