Amuse-Bouche (Food News) for June 21

Misadventures-with-Andi-Amuse-BoucheThis weekend I am starting a new series, Amuse-Bouche (single, bite-sized hors d’œuvres) covering food news that crosses “my plate.” [Stay tuned, tomorrow I am launching the same concept for travel news!]

Here we go!

Apparently the breakfast burrito was invented in New Mexico and as tasty as their green burritos are, I am not going to argue! New Mexico has released the New Mexico True Breakfast Burrito Byway an entire map dedicated to the best of the best of these little babies…now that sounds like my kind of road trip! If you get tired of burritos (is that even possible?) there is also the green cheeseburger trail and the ale trail!

Female Force: Julia Child Interactive Comic Book App

Are you a fan of Julia Child? Did you read the fabulous comic created about her? Well now there is an app based on the comic! Female Force: Julia Child, now available iTunes, Google Play, and the Amazon Appstore for $2.99. You will be transported back in time, through Julia’s days in Paris where she learned to cook at Le Cordon Bleu, as she wrote her famous cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and to her days as a popular television host.

I am super excited about the upcoming Festival del Sole in Napa. A 10-day festival dedicated to music, theater and dance and of course the region’s fine wine and cuisine. The festival runs from July 11-20, 2014 with tons of activities. I will be heading there for the Taste of Napa day to take advantage of all the amazing food that is available in Napa! Learn more about the festival and buy passes here.

The last Monday of every month (San Francisco’s) Russian Hill’s Stones Throw restaurant hosts an incredible chef/sommelier duo to share “food inspired from past experiences turned into fun and approachable everyday dining event.” The event features a unique 5-course dinner for $75 per person with 100% of the proceeds going to SF-Marin Food Bank (the same charity my project with Westfield benefits). Upcoming this month (June 30) is chef/owner Staffan Terje and wine director/co-owner Umberto Gibin of Perbacco, a restaurant I have frequented for lunch as it is right down the street from my office and quite delicious.
