I am planning a trip to Turkey next May, likely Istanbul but I am researching several cities as options. Which is why I was happy to have this guest post describing Izmir, a city I am unfamiliar with.
As the third largest city in Turkey, many holidaymakers choose to avoid the main centre of Izmir if they’re strapped for time because of its size - but if you have a little more time on your hands, a trip is well worth it. Whether it’s the bazaars you hope to haggle in that entice you or the various Turkish culinary treats that there are in store, a visit to Izmir isn’t out of the question.
Of course, the Izmir region has much more on offer as well as what’s within the city limits and with Adnan flights, you can see for yourself. Choose a last minute deal for September or head to the area for your next summer holiday and add any of these fine itinerary fillers to your plans.
Laze on one of its beaches
A summer holiday in the sun wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the beach and luckily, just a short distance from Izmir, you will find some breathtaking resorts including Altinkum, Cesme and Alacati where you can enjoy the warm waters and white sands of the Aegean coastline.
Aegean Sea Scuba Diving
Scuba diving is a highly popular pastime in the Aegean due to its clarity and warmth and, around Izmir, there are plenty of dive sites that will bring you closer to some long forgotten wrecks and the marine life that has since made them their home.
Daytrip to Pamukkale
If there’s one place worth a coach ride to, it’s Pamukkale, and while it’s a little further inland, there are plenty of excursions available that you will be able to sign up for. Hot spring water trickles from the top of the mountain, forming in white limestone pools that cascade to the bottom. Bathe in the waters and, if legend has it, you will feel invigorated and cleansed in moments.
How about you? Have you ever been to Turkey? To Izmir? What did you like?
