Traveler Tuesday – Bobbi Lee of Heels & Wheels

Traveler-Tuesday-on-Misadventures-with-AndiBobbi Lee started commenting on Misadventures with Andi in January which led me to her blog Heels & Wheels and I immediately added to my RSS for weekly blog reading!  When we first “met” she was about to take off on a multi-week Western US trip via a mini-RV and many of the locations she planned on visiting were some of my absolute favorites.

As soon as she completed that trip she was off on another – the girl does not stop!

She did, however; take a moment to answer the Traveler Tuesday questions that I pose when I do this interview series and her answers are below.

[1] When and how did you become a traveler?

I think it started with my People to People Ambassador Trip to Europe ten years ago. It’s frightening to think it’s been ten years since that trip. I didn’t know any of the 40 people going and knew very little about the six countries I would visit.

The trip almost ended early for me as I jumped off a cruise ship on the Reine and was threatened to be sent home. Luckily, I was not and got to see a fair share of western Europe as well as make some great friends.

By the end of that trip I was hooked. I started looking at my next chance to travel or affordable trips I could take. The next big adventure abroad came only three years later when I did a semester in London.

[2] What is travel to you in 10 words or less?

Air. I don’t think I could live without it.

[3] What is your favorite mode of transportation and why?

I’ve become quite a road tripper in the past few years and I think that more than any other form is my favorite. I just love the freedom it allows. Having my own wheels I can stop at the most random places to take a photo. It allows me to get off the tourist trail, stop and go as I please and carry along as much as I want. Well, almost.

[4] What do you typically do while traveling by plane?

This may sound weird, but a lot of the time I just think. Even on my flights with entertainment, I’ll spend a few hours thinking about anything and everything, whether that be the trip coming up or if people could walk without knees. I have a very random thought flow and I can go at it forever.

[5] What is your favorite travel memory involving food?

It’s an embarrassing one. While studying in London, my friend Garret and I had a fatty fest at Harrods. Donuts, ice cream, specialty meats, you name it, we ate it. It was an extremely glutinous, but silly day.

The best part for me came when we got back to our dorms and walked into the a lift with two other people. Usually the lift would go no problem with this many people, but this time it wouldn’t budge. The elevator reached its weight capacity, which has never happened to me before or since.

We came out of it roaring with laughter. Only we knew just how ridiculous the hours leading up to that moment were. I don’t support over eating or binge eating, but that memory always makes me smile.

[6] What is one blogging tip or lesson that you have learned along the way that you can share with my readers?

Think more about your interactions with the people you do have than attracting the people you don’t. It’s nice to have a large readership, lots of Twitter followers and many likes on Facebook, but what does is matter if you’re not communicating with any of them.

For me the most rewarding thing is for people to comment on my site or email me. I feel like I’ve actually impacted their day when this happens. It’s really important to have that relationship with your readers so don’t get completely side tracked by the numbers.

[7] Where to next?

Three Peaks Challenge in northern United Kingdom. I’m going to be based in London over the next few months and traveling around the UK. My boyfriend is from right outside the Peaks District and recommended this trip to me. People must climb the three tallest mountains in the UK in 24 hours to complete the challenge. I’m going to start training very soon and will do it in the summer.

Thanks Bobbi Lee!

  2. Thanks so much! I think it will be pretty incredible. Need to start training though. Unfortunately, London doesn’t have many hills to practice on!
