Charu of Butterfly diary first came on my radar about a year ago. Someone I follow on Twitter had retweeted a post she wrote titled, “Behind the Scenes” Series: A Q&A with MMGY Global on Working With Travel Bloggers, Tips for Writers & More” which piqued my interest. And it was her writing that kept me coming back. Every post that Charu writes is extremely well thought out and researched. She has a meticulous attention to detail which I witnessed when I had the opportunity to meet her during the #Trafalgar2012 trip I went on in November.
She is based in the New York area and blogs about travel and fashion. She has been using her super social media skills and entire network to actively fundraise for victims of hurricane Sandy
She is a pleasure to have a conversation with, extremely knowledgeable on a large breath of topics and extremely dedicated to being the consummate professional! I was delighted when she agreed to be interviewed for m Traveler Tuesday series.
[MWA] When and how did you become a traveler?
[Charu] I’ve been traveling since I was a baby: my earliest trip I can remember was when I was three years old, and when I was five I was whisked away from India to Africa and back, and it’s been non stop ever since.
[Charu] Being enriched through the encounter of other cultures, people, perspectives.
I love a good road trip! I really do love to travel by car because you’re more in control than say, a plane or a train. You can stop where you want, get a bit more off the beaten path and still go at a clip.
[Charu] I catch up on my movies! I hardly get out to the theater and I really love the fact that I can see recent releases on longer flights.
When I was in Italy I encountered fresh Italian pizza with tons of basil and hardly any cheese, and had the best foccacia and cannolis in Sicily. I’ll never forget how fresh everything was. I practically ate my way through Italy, from the buffa tomatoes to the mozzarella. Not to mention the ristretto!
Integrity, integrity, integrity! Don’t blog for an “audience” because you’ll sound fake if you do. Be yourself, love your community and cherish everyone you meet because it’s all about inspiring others to travel while remaining true to yourself.
Thanks Charu, I can eat my way through Italy too!
You can catch more of Charu on her blog or Facebook page and check out her chatter on Twitter, wherever you catch her, I am sure you will enjoy her adventures! Charu is also an AFAR Ambassador so make sure you check out her Wanderlists.

What a beautiful person! Ugh, like I need another travel blog to follow… Off to read!
I agree, road trips are the best! Great interview and I love that photo!!!
Here, here! (re: “don’t blog for an audience.”) It’s genuinely painful to read a blog post that someone wrote just so others would come to their site. Great article!
Thank you so much for featuring me. It’s an honor to be on your site!
@AndiP, I love the surfing photo too, it surprised me when I got it, didn’t think Charu was so athletic!
@Mary, salut! Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Couldn’t agree more with Charu and you!
@Charu, the honor is all mine!
She is charming! I love that she took baby out with her for FNO. Great interview, Andi! I really enjoyed reading this.
This was a great interview, I wish I could travel more.
What a great Q & A. We learn so much from others and in the eyes and interpretation of others.. it’s great to see someone with an open mind sharing perspectives.. thanks for introducing us to Charu!!
Man, it sure makes me want to travel! There are so many places I’d love to see!

I love Charu and of course enjoyed reading this. I have been impressed by her kindness and interest in helping other bloggers out. I hope to meet her in person someday soon!
