Newbie Photography Kit for Travelers

Wow!  Office supply stores have evolved! I for one did not realize the variety of items that you can pick up at them these days, its mind-blowing!

When I was contacted about doing some exploring on Staples.com I was hesitant. What could a foodie and a traveler find that would be appealing? Already have all the pens I might need.

Little did I know! But was about to find out.

The ASSIGNMENT: Spend $150 on whatever your heart desires on Staples.com and tell us what you think about the products.

Well, I could not in all consciousness justify $150 in snacks,  (I am pretty sure my office mates would not have minded even though right now they’re pretty satiated at the moment with all the Pretzel Crisps lying around!) so, I scratched my head and started exploring.

Then I was surprised.

Followed by delighted.

I have a pretty smart group of freaders out there, so you probably are already aware that Staples sells cameras.  I wasn’t!  After doing some of my own travels on the site I came up with the perfect compilation of products to share:  a newbie photography kit for travelers!

I am a huge fan of Canon.  My first real camera was a Canon and I have since graduated to a 5D Mark II, which is what Mr. Misadventures has too.  We’re a Canon family and we always will be!  I checked out the Canon line that Staples carried and read the customer reviews not only on their site but a few other sites as well. What I landed on was the Canon PowerShot A2300 which is a nice entry-level point-and-shoot that consistently excels in picture quality. It’s price point is below $100 which I find phenomenal, I think its perfect for a young traveler or post-graduate explorer.

With camera in hand you need a memory card to capture all those awesome shots, so I’ve selected a SanDisk memory card that’s will get ya started. It’s 16 GB so it will hold a lot of photos. Once you’ve taken those photos and are ready to share, Staples has a great memory card reader for uploading to your computer, laptop or tablet.  Also, I never travel anywhere without a little analog in the form of a Moleskine notebook that I use for taking notes on locations, camera settings, restaurant recommendations, you name it.  It is the one travel “tool” I never leave home without.

I think I did a pretty good job with this assignment, how about you? I found products from brands that I use and love and think this kit that comes in at under $150 will serve someone well, even if  “travel” mean crossing from one part of town to the next.  I was completely surprised by the amount of products that Staples carries…I guess that ‘easy button’ really is accurate.

There is one last thing that I think would make this kit special.  And that’s to take all the products I bought at Staples.com and throw them into a Kelly Moore Riva bag.  It’s the baby of the Kelly Moore family and will fit all the contents of my newbie photography kit perfectly.

Only thing left to do? Give the kit and bag to one lucky winner so that they can go out and start capturing their world and their travels in style!

There is one mandatory entry.  Answer this question:

After that there are other optional items that will allow you to increase your entries and therefore your chances.

Ends midnight PST on Friday, February 8th.

I would like to take photos on our honeymoon! This would be a great travel camera.

  422. I am a professional photographer, and my favorite camera and laptop with all my photos on it was stolen. Luckily, I kept the memory cards. I never delete them, b/c of situations like that. I started out with a NIKON film camera that my father gave me got my bday. That’s when I found what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I have a digital Kodak that has a small printer that you can print photos off as soon as you want. My Canon digital was my favorite. It took amazing photos. It also had a memory card in it with photos of a baby shower I did for my best friend, and it had other professional photos and many pics of my 3 yr old son. I bought my husband a camera for Christmas that was a Nikon, and the lens broke 2 months ago. Needless to say, I am in desperate need for a new digital camera and a DSLR camera. I would love to have a new digital camera with a bag. I would use it for taking my professional photos, take pics of my adorable son, and use it for our first vacation to the beach w/our son. The bag would help so much, as far as protecting the camera and keeping it safe. Good luck to all and God bless. Sincerely, Amy B.
