Okay, this is the last time I am going to let myself feel sorry about this…but today we were supposed to be on a flight heading to Italy, first stop Rome. And while we aren’t going on the trip for very good reasons, I am still a little bummed.
We’ll be going next year, all the planning we have done will remain in tact, but I am missing Europe, which is par for the course once we get past the six-months-since-our-last-trip mark.
But I do have my memories, like this random photo of a Roman street taken from our trip in 2007. I can’t wait to make new memories next year!

Ah, the Eternal City will wait for you eternally. I completely understand your disappointment, and hope a bit of pasta might help (I find it usually does
I loved Rome! I definitely feel your pain, we had to postpone our European trip this past summer due to my guys hospitalization, but thankfully he has recovered nicely and we have rescheduled for next spring. It’s always wonderful to relive old memories too! xxoo
Awh! I so wish I had the power to still help you go somehow!!! Rome is wonderful. But I’m glad you’ll still get to go next year. And, this is a beautiful photograph.
@Ann, agree, it will be there next Spring when we try again. Hope to get to Paris before then. A big bowl of pasta fixes a lot of things!
@Cathi, glad to hear the man is on the mend, will make the trip next Spring that much better!
@Kirsten, what a compliment coming from you. I have been to Rome on 3 other occasions, it is more the 13 days in Tuscany that am really sad about – but we’ll do next year for sure!
You’ll be there again no doubt
It’s true that Rome is a wonderful city full of surprises at each corner of street I would say. You push the gate of a porch and it’s just like a piece of history is waiting for you there inside. Same sensation that I often have in my beautiful Paris I may say.
It’s an abbey which I bumped on at random while travelling there in car, and it was so beautiful that it kept me there for a bunch of hours: Its called Abbazia di Monte Oliveto Maggiore. When going out of Rome, you’ll be heading north, and Siena (pure jewelery) will be one of your major stages of course. Then the abbey will be just on your way before arriving in Siena.
And yes if you were heading for Tuscany, I understand your disappointement even better. Because in regards of marvels Tuscany is just a horn of plenty!
May I suggest a stop over for your trip of the next year?
But maybe I can give some tidbits of what is waiting for you there?

Yes, that is disappointing, indeed. I went to boarding school in Rome and it’s by far my fave European city. Just your picture makes me happy seeing how they cram an entire section of a resto into the otherwise meant for parking space, No respect for the law!
@Daisy, one of the things you must love about Italians!
Rome is one of my favorites cities in the world. I studied there in college and lived a bit north for a little while afterwards. There is something about the energy of the city; it just rises up from the cobblestone streets. Italy in the fall is also my favorite. I could spend the entire day in Campo de’ Fiori checking out the produce. So sorry your trip was canceled. Your making me think I might need to plan one for next year, too!
Italy is my dream trip. Some day…… Hope you get to go next year.
I’m so sorry about your trip….I know the disappointment. I was supposed to be going to Greece ( a bucket list trip for me!) this Spring – and for good reason was unable to go. Italy is another bucket list trip for me – I am a foodie – and because of all the Churches, etc. Seeing Francois Roland’s links to the Abbey just make me long to visit there even more. I love the “off the beaten path” sort of places.
@Debby, I will have to check out the Abbey links, thanks for the tip!
@Nadine, I hope you get there too!
