Friday Food Foto – Comme Chez Maman Rognons d’Agneau

Rognons d'Agneau from Comme Chez Maman in Paris

I am traveling at a conference and still rebuilding my photos from my hard drive crash so I am using a photo that I prepared for an upcoming AFAR post (see my Highlights and Wanderlists that I have been working on so far).

Mr. Misadventures and I have recently been speaking about the dish pictured above, part of a meal that we had back in January at a small restaurant recommended by Meg of Paris by Mouth, called Comme Chez Maman.

This dish is rognons d’agneau which are sheeps kidneys, something that I had never eaten before living in France and something that believe or not is quite good (although I have to say I have had a few bad experiences when it wasn’t cooked well!). It’s not something you can readily find in too many spots here in the U.S. and we were discussing how it was one of the dishes we miss from France.

You can tell when it’s been awhile since our last visit to France, the frequency of our discussions about the foods we miss increase tremendously!

Now, onto More Tasty Tidbits:

From Eat Boutique: Tomato basil jam (I made Mr. Misadventures make this and it rocked!)

From David Lebovitz: Meatball sandwich submarine grinder hoagie torpedo

From Noble Pig: Tangy Sriracha pumpkin parmesan soup with fried sage leaves

From Joy the Baker: Pepper jack grilled cheese sandwich

From White on Rice Couple: Brussel sprouts gratin

How about you? What have you been eating lately?

  1. Generally I find offal, well, awful, but your photo is incredibly tempting!

    • @Ann, I am actually not a huge fan myself, but I try things at least once. Like I said I have had bad rognons but these are definitely good!

  2. Bonjour! I just found your blog through IB4M and I am SO GLAD!!! I LOVE IT! I had just read the intro about finding a blog that you feel connected to, like you can agree with, and yours is definitely one of those! As I read the About Me I was struck with the things we have in common! I don’t get to travel as much as I’d like now, but I did live in France for a couple of years and I lived in Germany two times and I just miss Europe so much!!! So, I am so looking forward to following this and reading your adventures! THANKS!

  3. Eeeeek kidneys! But well it’s a great shot!!!

  4. I attest – very good!

    • @Jennie, have you had bad ones? I had one bad experience at a brasserie in the Etoile area, almost turned me off for good!

The photo makes it look so wonderful, though I am not sure I could eat it. I just have an ingrained aversion to organ meats. Of course, I have eaten snails and ants, so who am I to judge.

    • @April, I bet if someone at your table ordered it and you smelled how divine this smelled, you’d ask for a bite and try it. Having said that, there are plenty of organ meats I would not order to try on my own either!

  6. Oh my. I clicked on the picture because I thought that was a mushroom ragout! But has that given me an idea…
