Saturday Six #111

Saturday Six on Misadventures with AndiHappy Saturday everyone! It was a cold week in San Francisco and I spent half of my time cursing the weather. I guess I shouldn’t complain…my friends in Paris are suffering from a heat wave and I would rather be cold than hot!

I spent last weekend cranking out the rest of my Southwest Roadtrip Reports so the end is near!  I am really struggling to figure out how to keep up with the trip reports while I spend 13 days in Italy!  Anyone with suggestions, I’ll take them!

I always get nostalgic for Paris in August, I am not sure why as it really isn’t my favorite month to visit. I think it might have to do with the distance of my most recent trip, it has been too many months since my last visit and too many weeks ahead until my next!  I’ll catch two-and-a-half days there on the end of my Italy trip, but I know it won’t nearly be enough.  I guess this sentiment is reflected in my selections for Saturday Six as there are a lot posts from France!

So as the French would say, “On y va !”

[1] Who better to provide an insider’s guide to Paris than the bloggers who live there (lucky gals!)?  I certainly think they are the best sources of info, but then again I might be biased as a lot of the sources in Prêt à Voyager‘s Bloggers Guide to Paris are friends!  Bias or not, this is an exceptional resource for anyone planning a trip.

[2] I so enjoyed my own extended trips to Brittany that I can’t help fall in love all over again when I see other people’s post on this region.  The absolutely gorgeous photos in My Little Fabric‘s post, “Brittany, the Emerald Coast” took my breathe away!

[3] Lindsey of Lost in Cheeseland also took my breathe away, but it was more the gasping sort from laughing so hard!  Her post on Paris rules for the Rails reminded me of all the bizarre things I have seen both in Paris and on BART in San Francisco. I don’t think I have seen any Public Service posters about BART behavior, but any of the Paris ones could apply!

[4] I am a huge fan of retro signs.  And what could be better than a retro sign than a retro hotel attached to it?  Okay, there could be one thing better….if that retro hotel was on the classic Route 66! Which is why I loved (x three) Jen of Jenx67‘s report on her stay at the historic Blow Swallow Motel on Route 66.  Everything about it and her trip was way cool.

[5] I love dimsum.  I go nearly every weekend to enjoy it. Not only do I love the food, but I love the concept of being able to get lots of different things to try!  Now there is a restaurant in San Francisco (which I am dying to try) that presents multiple dishes in a dimsum style of service – carts where you can see the food, etc.  I have read about State Bird Provisions in a couple of magazines, but this week I saw Carolyn of FoodGal‘s review of her visit there and I know I have to get there asap!

[6] I am the first to admit that I am guilty of having a few giveaways that drive growth numbers for Misadventures presence on Facebook and Twitter, and it is a tool that many bloggers use effectively (I hope I am one of them).  But there are also those (aren’t there always?) who abuse the concept which is why I LOVED Wendi Arron‘s humorous post on the topic: enter my contest to win!

That’s it for this week except to share one last post that Chez Loulou had on her blog this week called the benefits of blogging. The benefit?  YOU. Each and everyone of you who reads me and supports me – I echo the sentiments of Chez Loulou and I am thankful!

Have a great week!

  1. So sweet of you to include me in your Saturday Six. Thank you, Andi!
Also, thank you for introducing me to My Little Fabric! The images of Brittany are absolutely stunning and I can’t wait to read back through previous posts.
And I laughed out loud when I read Wendi’s Giveaway post. Hilarious stuff!
    Bon weekend!

  2. I love your list of Saturday Six. And such a nice idea.

  3. @ChezLouLou, My Little Fabric is a recent discovery for me too, I also can’t wait to go back more! Wendi is so funny, I know I will always get a good laugh reading her stuff!

  4. @Cipri, thanks! I love sharing the good stuff I find!

  5. The photos in that Brittany post were very special. I always wonder how people get so close to their subjects – like the tractor. Did she arrange permission? Also, the canisters of candy. I love Saturday Six! Thanks for mentioning me. The blog contest post was so funny. “Like everyone, then unlike them just to confuse the sh*t out of them.” Contest scare me b/c I’m afraid I’ll do everything but one thing and then be disqualified and it will be all for not, so i rarely enter. But yours – they’re never like that. ;)

  6. @Jen, thinking back to my time in Brittany the tractor was probably out in the artichoke field unattended (like at lunchtime!) and you can access a lot of the fields straight from the road – I did! The candy is actually spices and it is a little shop in Cancale run by Olivier Roellinger who is a smart businessman who wouldn’t dream of preventing someone from taking photos and pushing out the word about his properties. The only one that likely need permission is the artichoke collector – the one showing the workers hand – in which case she probably asked permission!
