French Friday – Cabernet Sauvignon: Beginners Guide to Wine

I live right next door to Napa and Sonoma, eat daily in a town that is run by foodies and live with a French husband, so I am sure that it is no surprise that wine is an ever-present part of my life.  But in reality I don’t know much about it!

I know what the general rules are and I know what I like, but beyond that I am clueless!  So when the lovely ladies of Women on Writing asked if I wanted to check out part of a new series on wine written by Sara J. Fasolino from 101 Publishing, I said “bien sûr!”

Cabernet Sauvignon: Beginners Guide to Wine (101 Publishing: Wine Series)Considering the history and prestige surrounding cabernet sauvignon I was expecting a massive tome, so I was pleasantly surprised when the Cabernet Sauvignon: Beginners Guide to Wine ebook turned out to be just 22 pages.  However those 22 pages are filled to the brim!  Being a francophile, I was particularly interested in the history which I found fascinating!

I have friends who make wine at home and I have heard them talk about it on many occassions, but I was not aware of the actual process that they technically go through…now I know!  It is so much more fun drinking their results knowing what went into it!

These days when you step into a store you are met with hundreds if not thousands of wines…and labels!  Sara takes you through the process of understanding and deciphering the labels so that you can make the right purchase decisions.  Once you get it home, you’ll know exactly how to prepare it, serve it and what to serve it with (my favorite part!).

Sara J FasolinoAs a master sommelier and someone who has worked in food and beverage industry, Sara Fasolino has the perfect background to write this book and I appreciated her very clear writing style.

This book gave me just enough knowledge to be dangerous and I loved it!  Not only that, but at a price of $2.99 for each book, I can very easily buy the whole series and learn about the vast majority of wines that are out there which I think will allow me to enjoy food that much more (you know me, always have food on the brain!).

If you don’t  believe me you can try one out for yourself for free.  Yep, you heard me right, free! If you visit the Wine 101 Facebook page and access this special app url, you will see a selection of Sara’s ebooks, pick the one you want to receive, fill out your name and email and voilà!

Santé !

  1. Andi, thank you for this. I already have one eBook on the way. I hope to find out more about my new love for Pinot Gris

  2. @Jennie, glad to hear, I bought the Pinot Noir because that is my favorite right now and I want to know more!

  3. Ooooh how exciting!

  4. Thanks so much! I just took a beginner’s wine course here locally in Atlanta. So this will help me continue my quest for wine knowledge.

  5. @Vanessa, how was the class?

  6. Oh I so need this! I just drink wine because it tastes good… :-)

  7. @Rebecca, me too…but it is kind of nice to know a little more!

  8. The wine class was very informative. It lasted 2 hours. They provided lots of information and great wines for us to taste. They have a lot more specific classes, too. I will probably take more in the future.

  9. @Vanessa, good to know, I have looked at those before, especially when they teach cheese pairings!

  10. http://on.fb.me/PJp3zN – “French Flashcards with Pictures” is an iPhone app that will help you learn French faster by using flashcards with pictures (learn over 300 most commonly used words in the English / French language from A to Z), thanks.

  11. This would be great for my husband, when he tries things he always reads books on them. He has been trying different wines so this may help him a bit
