Friday Food Foto – Chez Panisse Kitchen and TC USA

TC USA Bites from Tandoori Chicken USA truck

This week I just could not decide what picture to share.  Technically this is a food foto series, so by all rights that means a food photo, thus the above image from another food truck adventure I tried this week.  The truck is Tandoori Chicken USA or TCUSA which serves a menu of Indian dishes such as the obvious tandoori chicken as well as other dishes like tikka masala, vegetable curry, etc.  A yummy mango lassi is available and it is resreshing. More photos are available in my San Francisco food truck album on Flickr.

I was looking forward to trying their butter chicken but it wasn’t on the menu the day I visited so I ordered the tandoori chicken sandwich.  On a whim I also ordered their TC USA Bites which are fried dumplings with chicken, cheese and curry – they were seriously yummy!  That is what the photo is.

However when you eat at Chez Panisse it is a must-mention, so I wanted to include it here as well.  It is my third time eating at Alice Water’s restaurant and each time is an epicurean delight!  From start to finish the meal in unforgettable and I am so thankful that it is in my own backyard in the Gourmet Ghetto.

Unfortunately while the food is amazing, the photos that I have taken on each visit are not.  It is just too dark in there and I am just not at a place yet where I will use flash, it is just too disturbing to other diners!

So the photos of food are limited (there are some I uploaded on my Berkeley Flickr album) but shots of the open kitchen are really fun to take. As I was seated close to the kitchen I took some shots and then I was invited to step in and take a few more.  It is a small kitchen but warm and alluring, once invited in you don’t want to leave.  I wanted to share a photo:

Also, if you have access to the French/English magazine La Fricote, Lindsey of Lost in Cheeseland has an article in it about the first official food truck in Paris, Le Camion Qui Fume. She also wrote a blog post on her own blog about it.

  1. awww thanks for including me!!! I think you’d LOVE the magazine. Let me know if you want me to mail you a copy!!

Chez Panisse will be a must for us on our trip this summer. How far in advance must we reserve?

  2. @Lindsey, thanks so much I would love a copy! After I can get a subscription. You can only reserve 30 days in advance and you have to call right at opening at 9AM. I can TOTALLY help you with this. When you have your dates that you will be in the Bay Area, let me know and I can make the call for you to see when I can get you in. Maybe we can make it a foursome – if not that is okay, I would still love to help you!

  3. This looks really good. I’ve been able to eat NOTHING lately – I’ve had a stomach flu bug or something terrible for more than a week. I’m living on toast…and really tired of that menu!

  4. I had no idea you had a Flickr account of SF food truck adventures. You’re holding out on us. I love Food Trucks. You’ve given me a great idea for an OKC blog post, Andi. We don’t have as many food trucks at SF, but we have a few including Waffle Champion. It looks like a Winnebago.

  5. @Jen, oh yes, it is one of my new obsessions. There are hundreds of them in San Francisco and more and more that pass in an organized manner near my office every single day. As a foodie it is so fun to try these out, talk to the owners, try the different offerings. Some are really, really good, some not so good, but each one means I don’t have to eat in the same lunchtime restaurants I have been eating in the last 3.5 years! For that I say hooray! 6. In indonesia this food called pastel :)

  7. @TourExplora, thanks, now I know the name!
