#Reverb10 Day 4 – Wonder

Today’s prompt for #Reverb10 is:

How did you cultivate a sense of wonder in your life this year?

Wonder. Taking time to smell the roses. Taking nothing for granted. Staying curious.

My husband calls me a “little detective” because I have a tendency to ask a lot of questions.  I observe a lot. There is something that drives me, a curiosity I guess about life and everything in it.

But not to the extent that I want to fix everything or that I don’t want some things to remain a mystery.

I read a quote about wonder: “A sense of wonder keeps us from behaving as if we have other people figured out.”  I really like that.  It is about listening. About observing. About respect.

I continued my cultivation this past year by adding many, many blogs to my reader.  Blogs by people from every walk of life, from every corner of the world.

Because I am always amazed at the lives people lead.  How they are different, how they are similar.

I think it leads to compassion and yes, wonder.

How about you?

  1. Loved this, it’s so true. I used to be a very judgmental person and then I got out into the world and was truly ashamed with how I had been behaving. The world is a much more interesting place when you accept it for what it is and try to learn from it… it has much to teach!

  2. Excellent quote, and really, when you look at it that way, it will make you a better friend/partner in life, as well as returning the magic (that sense of wonder) to the everyday…

  3. I think you bring up a great point- about reading how other people live their lives. I know in my own life I take time to revel in the quiet, in the little miracles that happen every day.

  4. @Jennifer, it is important to recognize those little miracles…thanks for agreeing!

  5. @Libis, great point, thank you for that perspective.

  6. @Brad, it is very true that travel is the key to becoming a better person. Even for those with the money to do it, going outside of your own town is sometime enough to open up your mind.

  7. Hey Andi!
What a great quote – “A sense of wonder keeps us from behaving as if we have other people figured out.”

It wasn’t really until I started traveling and meeting people from all walks of life that I began to realize just how different and similar in infinite ways people can be. To be honest, when it comes to travel, I of course love exploring new places and experience different cultures, but equally important are all the fantastic and interesting people and their amazing stories I come across.

It keeps life interesting, keeps us wondering, keeps us asking and exploring when we let the stories of others’ into our lives, ya know?

It’s awesome you’re so open minded and really take action to recognize the power of, well, wondering. :)
