12 Days of Christmas Giveaway – Day 6

On the sixth day of Christmas, Misadventures with Andi gave to me…

An autographed copy of my friend Alisa Bowman’s new book Project: Happily Ever After which is coming out on December 28th!

I write about her all the time, she has a blog that is a terrific resource for free marriage help and advice and now she is sharing her story and more in her own book, Project: Happily Ever After.

I have two autographed copies of the book to give to two people:

To enter tell me what your favorite marriage (or relationship) advice is. Mine is never go to bed angry, but yours can be anything!

You have until midnight PST on Monday, December 13 to leave your comment.

Bonus entries will be allotted for re-tweeting the post (if you need help with how to do this, I wrote instructions last year here).

I will use Random.org to make all winner selections.

Check back at my 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway Center post for new giveaways each day as well as deadlines and winner selections.

Good luck!

NOTE: I will be on a plane traveling to Tokyo for the rest of the day and will not be able to approve those comments that get stuck in the approval queue, but fear not, your comment will be accepted and will likely show after I am able to get internet access upon arrival.

  1. My favorite is just to touch each other. It doesn’t have to be sexual necessarily, but just the physical intimacy of holding hands while you walk somewhere, cuddling on the couch while you watch TV, hugging each other for a moment while you wait for dinner to cook, all of that makes you feel closer to the other person. Physical intimacy, no matter how small, begets emotional intimacy, which makes for a happier marriage.

  2. I totally agree, never go to bed angry! I also think you should never lose yourself in your partner either.

  3. Kevin Bacon said, keep the fights clean and the sex dirty. Genius. I LOVE Alisa’s tweets; I would LOVE her book, too!

  4. Mine is to balance any criticism with way more positive encouragement.

And, have lots of sex! LOL

  5. mine is to share the good and the bad

  6. quinieleong says:

Dont keep your expectations too high! Better yet, dont have any expectation. Life ain’t a fairytale babe!

  7. Don’t accept a playboy no matter how much you like him. He will only break your heart. You deserve much better!

  8. I’m really interested in reading this book! I’ve heard much about it.

My favorite marriage advice is to always say “I love you”, before you leave the house in the morning.

  9. I’m engaged, so not yet married, but my fave advice from my grandmother is, “make sure that’s the face you want to wake up to everyday!” πŸ™‚
PS. Check out our giveaway, too!

  10. Communicate! No matter how awkward the subject.

  11. Make love often ; )

Seems like a great book. I would love to win! Thanks.

  12. I work with engaged couples as part of my job- my favorite marriage advice is talk about everything before you get married…and keep talking once you are married. Listen to everything before you get married and keep listening once you are married.

  13. it’s not a contest

  14. Well I’m on my 2nd marriage and I learned a few things from the first one.
Going to bed at the same time as your partner really is an important thing. Even if one can’t go to sleep right away waiting til the other goes to sleep before getting and doing other things.

It’s not a catchy saying exactly but it is important.

  15. Make decisions together and always smile to your partner.

  16. I β€œLike” Day 6 of 12 Days of Christmas wall post. FB id- Mxy Rxy Fernandez

  17. It’s important, I think, to show your partner the same respect that you would a coworker. It’s too easy to fall into the “ditzy wife” or “dopey husband” stereotypical way of treating them and that makes them feel looked down upon.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  19. Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, and half-shut afterwards

  20. Marriage advice? Hmmm…..I’ve been married for 7 years, and we talk things out, give each other space, and don’t go to bed angry. Plan romantic moments / dates / dinners / etc. Work on your friendship! Because if you’re not friends to start with, it’s hard to deal with when the initial romance dies…. πŸ™‚

  21. Liked it on FB!

  22. My favorite marriage advice that I’ve ever gotten is “marry the right person and the rest will work itself out…in the good and the bad.”

  23. Marriage advice would be always make time for each other. Hard to do with work and kids and all that goes with it but date nights are important!

  24. Be careful what you say to each other. Once the words are out you can never take them back.

  25. retweeted!

  26. Hmmm… I’ve never been married, but I know about respecting each other’s differences. Respect is important in any relationship. Thanks for the giveaway!

  27. Mine is to continue courting each other and keep the love alive.

  28. It doesn’t matter HOW he folds the towels. He is FOLDING the towels!!!!

    this applies to all things.

although my great grandmother used to say: I’d rather have 2 more dogs than another husband. Because at least when I get tired of the dogs i can just let them go.

  29. I did not read the other comments, so my apologies ahead of time if this has already been said.
Be Patient….this was advice given to me a few months ago. I am still being patient, hoping that what I am waiting for will come to pass. But the fact that I have been patient so far has allowed my husband and I an opportunity to work on our marriage and myself to discover new friends and identify characteristics in myself to work on.

(btw, I *really* *really* *really* would love a copy of this book. If I don’t win, where will it be sold at????)

  30. Liked both your fb page and day 6 of of the giveaway. Also retweeted on my twitter page…but don’t know how to post the link.

  31. Use “I” statements, remember to touch, share….

  32. Do not enter marriage with the dream of ‘happily ever after’… that is just not reality. Pick the right partner to begin with, don’t settle, and you can weather the good and the bad together.

  33. Never take your partner for granted.

  34. Well..

Mine is to make a significant contribution to the society so that I’ll be remembered even after my death. πŸ™‚

That is my goal in life. πŸ™‚

  35. Kylee Duff says:

Never say hurtful things and/or don’t let selfishness into your marriage.
